Dahlia's POV

It was Tuesday night when Emmett and I were having tacos for dinner. Coraline slept in one of the guest rooms in my apartment.

"Ugh, please. I really can't wait to strangle that witch," Emmett groaned as he took a bite of his food while complaining about one of his professors.

"I mean, who even told me that taking law is good. I should have learned that college isn't for me when I graduated political science 3 years ago," he continued to rant.

I swallowed my food before speaking, "Come on, don't let her ruin your motivation of finishing. You're already in your 3rd year. Soon, I'll have a best friend who is a lawyer."

"You are one of the hardworking people I know. Being an influencer who constantly has a messy schedule and being a student isn't an easy job."

He scoffed, "Damn, right."

"Plus, she isn't the first terror you have ever meet. You'll get past her like the others," I motivated him. "You're a bad bitch. Better live up to it."

He raised his brows at me with his lips pouted sideways, "Amen."

"By the way, how is Coraline?" He asked, continuing to eat.

I sighed, "She's a mess. She kept on crying. In everything we do, she remembers Lewis. Like fuck sake, we were watching Annabelle the other day, and while I was about to piss my pants, she's sobbing because she remembers that she and Lewis watched it."

"Yikes," Emmett scrunched his nose.

"Although she works from home, that's all her routine is consisted of now. Work, sob, eat, cry, eat some more, cry more, then sleep," I explained in concern.

"We knew they were having problems, but I never thought that it would be to at this extreme where she would say no to him proposing."

"I know," I spoke in between bites.

The ringing of my phone beside my plate broke our feast.

Calling: Lewis Walker

I gasped, "It's Lewis."

"Give that to me," Emmett snatched my phone to answer it.

"What do you want?" He asked sharply.

"Put it on speaker," I mouthed.

He did and placed the phone on the table in between our plates.

"You're on speaker, and Dahlia is here. You better watch the words that will come out of your mouth," Emmett threatened.

"Listen," Lewis started.

Emmett let out a sarcastic laugh, "And what did you do to deserve for us to listen when you did not give a fuck about our friend."

"I don't know what you're talking about," Lewis replied.

"Of course, you don't," I rolled my eyes.

"I just... I just want to understand why she said no. It's been days, and I can barely function, not knowing what made her leave," he begged.

"Well, that's not our problem," Emmett answered.

"Please, I love her."

"Well, I think the love you have for her is a little different from what you think. Because if you love her like you claim to do, then you wouldn't be in this situation," I spoke calmly.

"Can I talk to her? She's not answering her phone," Lewis asked.

Both me and Emmett looked at each other with hesitance before I replied, "Again, that's not our problem."

We do want them to get back together, but Emmett and I are respecting Coraline's wishes. Somehow, she knew Lewis will reach out to us. She said not to help him. "He's a grown man. I'm sure he's smart enough to find other ways," were her exact words.

And the moral code of "hoes before bros" is honored in our friendship. We respect one's wish.

Lewis sighed on the phone, "Alright, thank you. Please tell Coraline that I love her, and I won't stop until I get her back."

He hung up as Emmett and I released our breaths.

"This is so sad," Emmett said, poking his food.

"I know," I agreed. When I turned my head to the side, I saw Coraline hugging herself wrapped around a giant sweater which I'm guessing is Lewis's. She was on the verge of crying again, so I'm sure she heard our conversation with him.

"Oh no. Don't cry," Emmett rushed to her side to comfort her.

"I'm sorry," she hiccuped. "I have not heard his voice for days now. I don't even listen to his voicemails, and fuck, this is so hard."

Emmett assisted her in one of the dining chairs and asked, "Why don't you talk to him?"

Coraline wiped her tears as she shook her head, "If I talk to him, he will listen, and I know I'll forgive him in a heartbeat. But what then after that? He'll go back to the way he is? I can't risk it. He has to learn it by himself. He has to realize that I can't spell out everything for him."

I rubbed her arm up and down, "Don't get your heart too broken. He'll come to his senses."

"But what if he doesn't?" She asked, fear laced in her tone.

I replied, "You tell me. If it comes down to that, it's your decision, Coraline. And whatever that may be, I'm here for you. So don't be scared. Plus, did you hear him?"

She nodded.

"He loves you and won't stop until you're back together. We know Lewis. He doesn't let anything stop him from something he loves, especially if it's you. You love him, right?"

"So much," she burst into tears.

"Then have a little faith in him," I answered softly.

I looked up to Emmett and found him staring at me as I have grown to heads.

"What?"

"Where did you get that?" Emmett asked.

I shrugged my shoulders, "I picked it up whenever my parents fight. If my dad did something majorly wrong, my mom doesn't talk to him and let him realize it. Is she scared that it might end up in a divorce? Yes. But she chooses to have faith in my father. It makes them both better, honestly."

"They are like a bunch of teenagers acting lovey-dovey," I rolled my eyes on, remembering how affectionate they are.

"Why can't you apply that to yourself?" Emmett huffed as Coraline chuckled.

I glared and flipped him off, "Shut up."

Emmett turned back to Coraline to comfort her, "Anyways, Coraline, I know you're hurting a lot, and it's okay to be sad sometimes. But please, don't be too harsh on yourself, okay? Dahlia and I are here, so if you want to talk shit about him, then I'm more than ready to do it. And if you want to cry and release your frustrations, we can break the plates and drink wine."

"You sure ain't going to breaking none of my plates and drinking any of my wine," I glared at Emmett knowing his real intentions.

My expression grew softer, and I placed my hand on top of Coraline's, "But if you do need to break plates, I can buy the cheap ones so we can break them."

Coraline chuckled and started to tear up again.

She shook her head, "No. No. These are tears of joy. I'm just really grateful to have you guys. I don't know what I'll do without you."

Emmett and I both awed then embraced her.

"Everything's gonna work out when they are meant to be," I reassured her once again.
