Chapter 38

Karas POV

After Lena and Kara left the party, it wasn't too much longer until they were cutting the cake and Emery was sitting around the table with my mom

"Here Kara" Alex says handing me a plate but I declined, I'm not hungry. Which is odd because I'm always hungry only this time was different, maybe it was because I was worried about Jo

"What's the matter with you? You never decline food let alone cake" Alex says

"I'm fine, just not hungry" I say and she gives me a side eye

"This have something to do with why lena and Jo left?" She ask me and I sigh

"I just worry, she was looking forward to hanging out with Ruby all week then she wanted to go home as soon as we got here" I frown

"I'm sorry Kara" she says and gives me a hug

"It's okay, but thanks" I say and wait for Emery to get done with her cake and she comes over to me

"Are we going home?" She ask me

"Are you ready?" I ask her

"I think so" she says and I laugh

"Okay well let's go say goodbye to Grandma and aunt Alex" I say and she smiles happily and takes my hand pulling me towards Eliza

"Bye Grandma!" She says and gives her a hug while Eliza laughs

"Goodbye sweet girl" she smiles

"Bye mom, stop by before you head home" I tell her and she stands up and nods

"I will, I love you both" she says and Alex comes over to us

"Oh so I don't get invited on the group hug?" She ask

"No, you're not invited" I say and she playfully hits my arm

"That's not nice Aunt Alex, you can't hit people" Emery tells her and Alex's jaw drops

"That's right baby" I say and Emery walks over to me and I pick her up, balancing her on my hip

"Anyways, we're heading out" I say and use my other arm to give her a hug

"Aw okay, I'll call you later" Alex says and we head to the door and Ruby stops us

"Where's Jo?" She ask me

"She went home earlier" I say and she frowns

"I'm sorry" I say

"It's okay, I think I know why she did" she says

"Why is that?" I ask

"Because.... some of the girls I invited said it was bad to have two moms and they said that Jo was in an orphanage.... or that's what their older siblings told them. But I told them they were wrong and having two moms isn't bad and that it was Jos past not her future and they shouldn't judge people like that and they got mad and left. Maybe she overheard us" she says sadly

"Thank you for sticking up for her. I'll talk to her when we get home okay?" I say and she nods wrapping her arms around me

"Happy birthday" I say and she smiles

"Thank you" she says and we walk out and down to the car so we could head home

We got home a little before 6 and Lena was sitting at the table with her laptop and Emery ran into her room

"Where's Jo?" I ask her, setting my things on the counter

"Her room" she says sadly and I sit down in her lap
