I stared in shock at who stood in the alley's entrance. "Kyle? What are you doing here?"

He glanced at me and grinned. "Saving your butt, apparently."

He walked over and stood next to me, hands fisted and a glare directed at the group of thugs. "Now, which one of you lowlife punks wants to go first?" He asked.

They all recovered from the initial surprise and got into fighting stances. Me and Kyle followed suit. As much as i wanted to ask why he was here and how he knew i needed help, i would have to wait.

A guy near the front swung the first punch and I ducked away, his fist landing in the wall. I whipped my foot around and tripped him. He landed on his back with a thud and Kyle knocked him unconscious by kicking his head.

We both glared at the other guys who looked slightly nervous. Then they all bolted down the alley away from us. We glanced each other and burst out laughing. "Well, that was easy." I said between giggles.

Kyle chuckled. "You can say that again. They ran like scared cats before any real fighting even started."

"Yeah."

We watched the last of them go before i turned to him. "How much did you hear?"

Or see.

I thought.

He shrugged. "About everything. I came in at the time you were punching the wall."

I took a deep breath. "Oh..."

Please don't ask. Please don't ask. Please-

"So, what did he mean when he asked if you had come back for more?" Kyle asked.

I mentally groaned before sighing. "Nothing. He didn't mean anything."

"Is that why he kissed you?"

I shot him a glare. "It's none of your bu-"

"Maybe not. But, when my friend is being molested and almost stabbed to death, i think i need to know." He gave me a do-not-argue-with-me look.

I sighed. "Kyle-"

"Kayson, I'm tired of all the secrets. We're supposed to be friends and friends don't lie or hide things from each other."

I stared at him sadly for a minute before i nodded and sat down. "Fine. You want to know about my horrible past? I'll tell you. But, don't blame me if i seem like a completely different person to you afterwards."

He nodded and sat next to me. "Shortly after my parents past away, i went into a very rebellious state and did some reckless stuff. I dropped out of school, i was never home by cerfew, and, at one point, i joined a gang. Bert was in charge and he took me under his wing. That's how i learned to fight. We sold drugs and cigarettes, sometimes we got hired to beat someone up for another gang, it all just depended."

Kyle hadn't said a word and i was too ashamed to look at him so i stared at my hands, playing with the dead leaves on the ground. "After a month or so, Bert told me he had a thing for me. I was still an ignorant kid of fourteen and so when he asked me out i said yes. We kissed sometimes and, every now and then, we would have sex."

I couldn't help but, glance at Kyle to see his reaction. He just sat and stared at the other side of the alley. He looked slightly pissed off though and that confused me. "When i got a little older and more mature i started to realize that all the stuff i was doing was not the best choice and i needed to stop. I told Bert that and i also told him i wanted to break up. He got angry and threatened me but, i still left and, eventually, went back into school."

I took a deep breath and looked at Kyle. "Pretty awful, huh? I was kind of an idiot. If you don't want to be friends anymore i understand."

He frowned and shook his head. "The past is the past. The important thing is who you are now and that you made the right decision before it got too late. I wouldn't stop being friends because of something you did before i even met you."

I studied his face. "You're serious?"

He smiled. "Absolutely. You live in the present not the past."

I couldn't help but, smile too. "Thanks..."

He stood up. "Come on. You have to get home to see that jerk, don't you? Wouldn't want you to be late and miss making snide comments."

I chuckled. "Yeah."

We walked out of the alley and to my house. When we got to the door i turned to Kyle. "Thanks for walking home with me. I'll se you at school tomorrow."

He smiled and nodded. Then i went inside and closed the door. I heard him step off the porch and i peeked out the window. He was standing in front of the house and stared at it for a minute before walking away.

I sighed and put my back to the door. I don't know why my heart is beating so fast but, i feel really happy right now. I went upstairs and layed on my bed, a pillow hugged to my chest.

"Wow..."
