⫸⫸ We are bringing a disease into this fanfiction, I just wanted to say beforehand. We are NOT doctors in the slightest, this is research from trusted sites. Many of the medical explanations in the chapter are derived from sources such as the CDC themselves, if you have any questions on this, I would use their site!

Ethan sat in the cold cell for what seemed like, as far as he could tell, hours. There was no clock down there, and it was complete silence. Nearly deafening silence, except for the sounds of Ethan's breaths and occasional shuffling or fidgeting. Though, he didn't mind. It gave him room to think without nearly dying for once. Typically, that's when he would think, for some reason. 'Fight or flight makes you go mad,' he thought. He looked to the ceiling, the musty smell of the clearly unattended room filled his nose and he immediately looked back down, it was easier to not nearly die from how bad that smelled. He had done that so many times he could barely count them, he was as forgetful as a goldfish.

He continued running through everything that had just happened, it wasn't something you get caught in everyday. Even Ethan didn't run into the lords that often, and they were looking for him. The one time he tries to help one of them, everything falls apart and things are somehow worse. He wasn't quite sure how to react to that, it was a flawed system. Normally, it would have made things better. Yet, nothing in this damned village is normal, he should've known something would go haywire at some point. He's just surprised it took this long, and this little bit of affection for it to happen.

Just as he closed his eyes, preferring to sleep then sit there anxiously, he heard footsteps beginning to round the corner. He opened an eye and tilted his head up a bit, trying to see who it was to no avail. He nearly said something, but he thought that would end up getting him killed, especially if the footsteps were any confirmation of it being Lady Dimitrescu walking down. 'Who else wears high heels and walks with such a heavy step? Nobody.' He sighed when the Lady rounded the corner, he was right with no doubts. She stood there, seemingly a bit upset but it clearly wasn't at Ethan. He yawned as she began to speak, "Mr. Winters, it's about time you tell the story." Ethan nodded in reply and stood up, to clear his name and hopefully help Heisen. If he hadn't found him, he would probably have died with how bad he was.

She walked over, unlocking the door and pulling him out. Holding him by the wrist and dragging him to the interrogation room, nearly tossing him inside but Ethan managed to regain his footing. He shot her a glare and she returned it almost immediately, chuckling a bit at how dumb that was as he sat down. She did the same, sighing before fixing her hair.

"You'd better fucking explain this, Winters." He looked at her, confused.

He immediately retaliated, as if that were an insult. "How am I supposed to know what happened? I just found him, lying on the sidewalk."

"You were with him in his factory, he must've told you something." He heard her mutter something quietly, but couldn't quite make out what it was she had said. Based on her body language, he wouldn't have been surprised if it was some kind of insult. Ethan sighed.

"He looked drunk, said he had probably been out late and gotten himself sick. Again. He said again. I took him home, he was crying and shaking a ton. It looked like he was in pain, I had wrapped him in my jacket since he left his at home. He was struggling to walk, it was really hard to watch even when I helped him." Sighing once more, he looked at his hand. Fondly remembering Heisen's hand on it, it gave him some comfort in the unsettling territory.

It made him smile, although he must not have realized it until Dimi spoke up. "Care to share why you suddenly look so happy?" Ethan jumped up, he had forgotten she was there completely in the moment. He sighed.

"It's Heisen, I was smiling because he... Uh..." Dimi was staring into his soul, he gulped. Looking at her for a while, she seemed to soften up after a moment. Like she wanted to hear about Heisen. 'What happened that has her like this?' He sighed, deciding to finish his sentence. "I got scared in his factory, he laid his hand on top of mine and it was... Very comforting, I can't help but miss him right now..." She got a bit wide eyed before turning away, she was shaking a bit. I couldn't help but lean over and carefully set my hand on her shoulder, "H-Hey..."

She cut me off, her voice shaky, "I-I'm sorry, give me a m-moment..." I gulped, this was abnormal. I once again tried my hand at figuring out what was going on, retracting my hand from her shoulder and putting it back down by my side. Thinking about anything that could be making her act like this, eventually I began to hear a sound. A sound I knew too well.

"Are you... Crying...?" I cautiously asked, I heard her sniff before she nodded. To my surprise, she answered me for once. I assumed this meant something bad had happened to Heisen, I could feel the need to tear up but I suppressed that for now. Carefully, I stood up and walked over to her, hesitantly but opening my arms and smiling awkwardly. "You need a hug there...?" She looked up at me, tears in her eyes with a raised eyebrow.

"You... Huh..." Gently, she wrapped her arms around me and giggled. "This is awfully dumb of you, Ethan..." I nodded to tell her I knew, hugging somebody who wanted me dead was very dumb.

"Well... You needed comfort, yeah...?" She rolled her eyes and smiled.

"Comfort, yes... Your idiocy, even more..." She giggled and I smiled, at least she seemed happier now. She pulled away and sighed, "Thank you, dumbass." I rolled my eyes and chuckled. She seemed much happier now, despite still being worried. Just then, a knock was placed onto the door and Moreau pushed it open.

"Hey, I came to talk to you Dimi, but I wouldn't mind Ethan being here too." We both lifted an eyebrow, me tilting my head along with it. Moreau chuckled before he sighed, "Heisen woke up, we were finally able to figure out what was going on. It's... Not the greatest if I'm honest..." I saw Dimi getting worried once more and her tear up, I could feel my own tears start to fill my eyes against my will. Moreau continued, "It's COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) , he most likely got it from a combination of his asthma from birth and how much he smokes, not to mention how much debris and chemicalized air is in that factory. Basically, the way he lives turned against him, and he's had it for a while unbeknownst to us."

Dimi seemed to sigh in a bit of relief, like she genuinely thought he was dead already but she smiled nonetheless, "Can I see him?" Ethan sighed, expecting to be put back into the cell. Moreau nodded to Dimi, catching Ethan beginning to walk back to see him.

"Hey," Moreau grabbed his arm, "He wants you up there, Ethan." Ethan turned to Moreau, his eyes a bit big but he smiled and nodded. Moreau chuckled, "To be completely honest, he said 'I need my Winters.' He was drowsy, or at least I'll give it the benefit of the doubt for now, buddy." Ethan felt blush creep onto his face for a moment, shaking his head to get rid of it.

"Whatever, let's go see my Heisenberg." He chuckled, acting as if he was making a joke, but the words fit. He didn't want to stop saying that anytime soon, after all, he was his Heisenberg. Heisen just didn't know it yet, neither did Ethan.
