Skipping

—Jade's POV—

"How bout this?"

Tori looks at me expectantly.

"We can just go talk to Lane about taking the rest of the day off. We can just tell him that we have a huge project to work on and neither of us have anything important in any other classes." I wait for her to reply.

"A-Are you sure it'll work?"

"Of course it will Vega. I've used the same excuse before."

"Alright, I guess. Let's go then."

I watch as she splashes water on her face, dries it off and then I follow her out. We walk down the empty hallway till we get to Lane's office. I go in front of Vega and just walk through the doorway. Tori follows. When I walk in I notice that he must've been eating his lunch because he was mid bite when I barged in.

"Jade! Tori!?" He says when he finishes a bite of his sandwich. "What's up?"

I just decided to cut to the chase.

"Tori and I have a massive project to work on together for theatre class and neither of us have any important classes for the rest of the day. Tori being the goody two shoes that she is already finished a lot of her work for a while, so can she and I take the rest of the day off?" I managed to say with enough emotion to make it sound urgent and important.

  I look at Lane as he rubs his chin in thought.

"Hmmm. I don't see why not. Sikowitz does like to give big projects. Alright. I'll fill out a form for you two and you can be on your way."

    He pulls out a piece of paper from his desk and writes some stuff on it. I shift my weight from foot to foot as I watch. Finally he finished.

"This is just for me and the teachers. I'll stop in their classrooms and give them a note. You two are free to go."

"Thank you Lane!" Tori finally speaks up.

"Thanks." I say and he nods in response.

   I turn and walk out the door, Tori in tow. I see other students filing in and heading to their lockers and classes. Then I hear the tri tone go off. Everyone goes their ways. Some in groups, some in pairs and some on their own. I stop at my locker and Tori continues past me to hers.

I watch as she opens her locker and starts shoving all her stuff in her bag. I turn around and do the same, slamming my scissor covered locker shut. I saunter over to Vega, swinging my car key around my right index finger.

"Hey baby. You ready?" I asked while leaning against the locker next to hers.

"Just give me one minute please."

"K"

   She shoved her phone in her back pocket and zipped up her bag, slinging it over her shoulder.

"Ok, I'm ready!" She smiled.

"Let's go."

   I let her take my hand as we walked out to my car. Once we arrived I went to unlock the doors and saw that they were already unlocked. I found this weird the first time it happened, but now I'm kinda used to it.

"She's unlocked."

    Tori opened the passenger side door and tossed her bag in the back. She then took her phone out of her pocket and sat down. I then took my seat in the drivers side, threw my bag in the back and stuck the key in the ignition. I twisted the key and the engine roared to life. It went into idle and continued to purr.

"Let's motorvate." I say and pull out of the parking lot.

We continued in silence until Tori switched the radio on. Tonight You Belong to Me by Patience & Prudence came on. Usually modern music plays, but occasionally some classics come on the radio. I actually enjoy it.

  "I've never heard this song before. It's got a nice melody." 

   I looked over to see Tori looking out the window tapping her right hand fingers to the beat on the door's arm rest. I smiled and turned back to the road. 

"So, where do you wanna go? I asked keeping my eyes on the road in front of me. 

"I was thinking we could go to Nozu for an actual lunch and then go do whatever we feel like." 

"That sounds good because we are about two blocks from Nozu and I could use some sushi right about now." 

Another silence fell between us and I placed my hand on her thigh as I drove. I could feel my hand rubbing up and down her thigh absentmindedly. Then another song came on.
