Four large mounds of books had taken up residence beside and in front of Eliana. Kevin had become lost beyond the piles but his soft voice, asking questions, always reminded Eliana that he was there and also making her wonder how he ever made it as a Ravenclaw. Just as Eliana's patience grew too weak to handle the constant interruptions as he asked her about every little detail for his homework, her desired answer was finally found in the pages in front of her. "Only the heir." Eliana's words caused Kevin to lean around the countless books, almost toppling them over as he tried to see what she was looking at but the book was snapped shut, earning a few critical glances from studying students and a few stressed fifth and seventh years looked like they had already thought of the hex that they wanted to use on her.
"What do you mean? Why are you talking about the heir? If you mean the heir of Slytherin then that's a little suspicious seeing as the only descendant of the heir of Slytherin is currently trying to take over the whole world." Eliana shook her head as her wand flew up and the books she had been reading flew towards their rightful places again, the larger ones would have to be carried as Eliana wasn't perfect, her back was almost thrown out as she heaved one particularly large book filled with pictures. Creatures and famous faces covered pages as the author accompanied their writing. Just as she returned from placing the last book away, hoping to retrieve her bag and leave, Kevin was noticed again as he asked Su Li and Mandy Brocklehurst what he had been asking Eliana.
"Guys, quickly, if you were adopted and your adoptive parents were nice but other people always made fun of you for being adopted, and you always wanted to know and or meet your parents, what would your Boggart be?" Questions surfaced at her question but the look in her eye made them try to think up an answer. All of them, rather quickly, seemed to come up with an answer but none of them spoke up until Eliana glared at Kevin who she knew was the easiest to get through to.
"Maybe my birth parents rejecting me. Or maybe I would see them dead." Eliana grimaced as she heard the answer.
"I thought that, but, I don't really want that to be the answer. But, the book did say that magic knows more than..." Eliana stopped talking as she stood, thinking, as her thumb ran over the scar on her cheek whilst her forefinger hooked under her chin. "Bloody hell." Eliana withdrew her hand from her pocket, her wand following, before sizing something up in her head and leaving the room quickly, so fast in fact that Madam Pince nearly stopped her.
By the time Eliana had left the library, her mind was clearer and at once, her wand lifted. "Expecto Patronum." A large, pretty unicorn sprouted and from the tip and galloped around as Eliana thought of her parents. "Go, get Harry to meet me in the Entrance Hall. Quickly." The unicorn ran out of sight and Eliana smiled with her happy memories that kept flooding into her mind. Two professors had chosen to follow the source of the unicorn patrolling the halls but as they turned the corner, Eliana hid in an alcove and watched them pass, discussing the sight they had just met. Eliana managed to slip out quietly but just as she met the corner of the corridor, the stone was uneven, making Eliana tumble slightly as a few choice words left her mouth. Before the professors could catch a glimpse of her retreating figure, Eliana darted down the hall, narrowly missing Nearly Headless Nick, a brush of ice-cold tingles ran through her left arm as they barely greeted one another. By the time Eliana made her way into the Entrance Hall, it was deserted, aside from Harry and his two close friends.
"Ellie, what is happening?" Catching her breath, Eliana took a second as Harry watched over her shoulder for something.
"Harry, why can you speak to snakes?" The question caught him off guard and he looked ready to turn her down when she widened her eyes with anxious anticipation. He seemed to give in and tell her what she wanted to know.
"They think it has something to do with the night my parents died. Something about the spell. Why?" Harry's voice told Eliana that he didn't care but her brain was too busy thinking about something else.
"I think I know why I can't touch you. Harry, what did Tom Riddle look like? You said that Voldemort used to be called Tom Riddle. What did he look like when he was a student here?" Harry let out a few sounds as he thought, something else playing on his mind and Hermione had to smack the back of his head as she watched his eyes zone out. As soon as his mind returned to the room though, he spoke immediately.
"Tall, black hair, pale. Dark brown eyes. He was known as charming and attractive by the professors and students. Why?" Eliana blew air into her cheeks as she mulled over yet another thought in her head as she looked like a hamster who had just been fed.
"And, your scar hurts around him. He causes your scar to hurt. Right?" Harry nodded as Eliana quietly mumbled a stream of swear words to herself. Each more elaborate and interesting than the last. Ron laughed at one that she had chosen but as she started grumbling something about a fan, a voice echoed through the hall.
"Look, it's almost time for us to be in our Common Room. What's wrong?" Hermione had grown the most impatient as Harry still anxiously looked around them.
"I need to talk to Dumbledore, he knew and didn't think to tell me, or anyone else I bet. Oh, and if you're worried about Draco, which I know you are, I hear you in Potions. I just saw him being pulled by the ear by Professor Sprout. He has detention and she told him that he won't be able to sneak around her greenhouse any time soon because she was going to march him straight back to Slytherin Common Room herself." Eliana span on her heel and she marched straight to her own room. It was late and she wasn't even sure that Dumbledore was at the school, he rarely was. The things she wanted to say, the questions that she wanted to ask, and the rude gestures she was willing to give him for keeping such a secret from her.
"Ellie, where did you get to? You'll never guess what we just saw. Professor Sprout was telling Malfoy off when Dumbledore, himself, took points from Slytherin and he even told Malfoy that he had been foolish. His words sounded a little weird though, it was like Dumbledore was annoyed that he got caught or something." Eliana stopped in her tracks, throwing her bag onto her bed as she heard their words and a halfhearted smile graced her lips as she heard their words, panic grew in her chest.
"Dumbledore's here?" They nodded and couldn't speak again as Eliana left the room with her toothbrush and toothpaste in hand, mumbling something about nothing. Just as she left the room, the short corridor was travelled and careful to avoid any prying eyes, Eliana snuck out of the Ravenclaw Common Room. The sky outside had grown dark, it was barely past curfew and so Eliana was sure that students wouldn't be out, what she did know, however, was that staff were bound to be swarming the halls, especially since Voldemort was at large and his following grew larger every day.
"What did he say? Acid pops?" Eliana had taken to mumbling to herself as she was shocked to find not one member of staff anywhere. Before she could stress about the password, the steps leading to his office were already down and visible, whilst carefully glancing around the hall, the stone was crept up as both of her hands ran along the wall on either side of her. The tight spin caused Eliana to feel a little dizzy but she managed to sort herself out on the top step.
Silence met Eliana the whole way up to his office and she was sure that even the sound of pacing should have been heard. He appeared to not be moving at all. Just as the last step was carefully climbed, Eliana prepared herself to knock on the door but her eyes didn't catch sight of the door. Instead, it was wide open and inside sat the Headmaster, as well as the explanation for why none of her professors had been seen, everyone stood, watching him, all the while Dumbledore seemed to be thinking about something. Before Eliana could quickly turn and escape their notice, Dumbledore looked towards her and smiled slightly.
"Miss Abaza, I will admit that in my old age my wits aren't what they once were. How can I help you?" Eliana shook her head and tried to form words as soft black hair shook around her, captivating a few of the professors for a second.
"I can come back. You look busy, Professor," Eliana sighed out her response as she turned back and tried to walk away as quickly as she could, making a racket as she reasoned that the sound she made no longer mattered as all of her professors were standing in the office, aware of where she was.
"Miss Abaza, I think you should stay." Cringing, Eliana turned back around and obeyed his words as she entered the room again, all eyes had turned to her and for the first time since Eliana had started her sixth year at Hogwarts, none of the professors turned away. "Tell me what you wanted to say." Eliana gulped down and flicked her eyes between the adults in the room as a few grew impatient with her. "I have a feeling that I know what it is and I am rather shocked, I believe that even Miss Granger herself would have required more time to figure it out. She has always been a little pessimistic though, has she not?"
