A T R E U S

"This is the shit I warned you about Atreus!"

I scrubbed my hands over my face and into my hair in annoyance to my uncle's words. My family called me here just to drill it in deep and I really had things to take care of, things of importance. Only family of age and ones that were in the illegal side of things were present. If it was more crucial and life threatening then everyone would be there.

"Congratulations, now can we speed this along." I couldn't help my sarcasm and was unapologetic of it. I mean I can't really be cooperative right now and the live of my life was sitting in a prison cell.

My stare shut to Galina as she snickered at my response. She got the memo immediately as she rose her hands in surrender with a widening of her eyes.

"We will have no dealings in this, one wrong word out of her mouth and we could be going down right alongside her." He continued completely ignoring my response.

"I can't really agree with that, I am her lawyer. With that I have a lot of things to get done, now if you will-"

He was about to cut me off but my mother cut him off with a sharp clip of his name.

"Dion."

They held each others stare, gruelling tension alighting the room as they challenged each other.

"What you're uncle is trying to say Atreus is that her being in the limelight with this family has created inevitable problems and they will not only affect her but us." My grandfather spoke up from the other end of the table before either my mother or uncle could.

"Her being in the limelight with this family is only a slither of the problems grandpa, this has to do with other things that we have no part in, things that happened before we even met." I explained, the one thing I've been trying to explain to them since I arrived here but a certain person won't allow me chance to speak.

"Elaborate." Odessa said slowly as if talking to a petulant child.

I sighed, "Her father is dead, has been for six years. He had a wife, not her real mother, from what I got she was power hungry and killed him. Dariya took care of it when she found out but it seems she is alive. She said she knew what she wants if she was alive but she never told me, my only guess is that she's coming back for what she thinks is hers which is the family business. The only way to do that is to either kill Dariya or take her out of the equation fully and what better way to do that than lock her in an American prison cell where she has no control over anything."

"When I visited earlier today, they offered no bail and her trial is Saturday, a week from now. Obviously, somebody is very scared of letting her out on bail and they know it would take her nothing to fly out of the country undetected."

Money talks and Dariya had a lot of it. I tried to go that route with the judge this morning but obviously they bought him out already and they are holding something over his head because the amount of money I offered was questionable.

"So, then what's your move?" My father questioned.

"Well, they locked her away for killing her father and some other useless things to add to the fire so I'm looking for her real mother. She has one person to defend her and I need more than that so what better way to do that than get the person who knew her father personally and could abide by her innocence than her real mother." I questioned it myself only just saying it out loud because it was just a spur of the moment decision to ask about her when u visited Dariya.
