"What did this human do?" Minghao asks, amused.
"Wrong place, wrong time" I simply say.
"Ah-gotcha."

"So you're just passing through?" he asks.
"Yeah, there's nothing interesting in this town" I say.
"Of course there is. Me" he smiles.

"Do you know a guy named Theo?" I ask. I remember Minghao being an antisocial freak, but it seems he's changed. Did that human really change him this much?

"That would be me. I had to change my name a few years ago and it kind of stuck" he sheepishly says.

Well, that makes things easy.

"What did you do?" I ask, amused. He looks away.

"I kind of went on a rampage a week after Ann died" he says rubbing his neck.
"So the humans knew my name and face. I had to lay low and started using the name Theo. Some kid gave it to me" he shrugs.

"You could've visited" I say, looking at him with sympathetic eyes.

I know that feeling all too well.

"Yeah" he says, looking into his coffee.

"Did you meet anyone since then?" I ask.
"No no. That whole scene is over. You guys were right" he says, looking sad.

"At least you were happy so it couldn't have been all that bad" I say.
"I was" he says with a fond smile.

He really has gone soft.

What happened to the stubborn guy that didn't want to listen to us? What happened to the almost stoic guy that didn't have emotions and did things impulsively?

"Anyway, why are you looking for me?" he asks.
"I was hoping to catch a ride in your carriage with a few humans. I hear you go to the river daily" I explain.

"I do, but what's in it for me?" he asks.
"Not much" I simply say.

"Fine. I'll do it" he nods.

Didn't take much convincing.

"I suppose your sense of adventure is still in you" I say.
"It's always been like that" he says.
"Yeah sure. There's lots to do in this place" I sarcastically say.

"Mind if I come along with you?" he asks.
"I'm not sure humans will appreciate a vampire coming with us."

"Then we just don't tell them-easy. How do I know how to trust these humans with you anyway?" he asks.
"I haven't seen you in years and now suddenly you care? Besides, I can handle myself just fine" I say.

"I wasn't talking about you. I'm surprised you haven't killed them until now" he says in a teasing manner.
"I haven't killed anyone in a long time" I mention.

"Really?" he asks, unamused.
"Yeah. I finally decided to stop."

"Was it because of your humans?" he asks with a snide smirk.
"They weren't mine" I simply say.
"It really did look like it" he mumbles under his breath.

"Was it three or five?" he asks, amused.
"You can't even remember their names?" I ask, eyebrow raised.
"Why would I? I didn't care for them then and I still don't now" he sourly says.

"Oh come on. They weren't all bad" I say.
"Uh huh" he's clearly unconvinced.

"Anyway, do you really want to join us? It's going to be a long trip and most likely during the day" I say.
"I want to be on an adventure with you again. For old times sake" he says with a small smile.

"If you really want to" I say, taking my last sip of coffee.

"Why not?" he says, seeming satisfied.
"I can give you a thousand reasons why and we both got time for me to list each one" I say.
