It had been almost a week since the testing. You laid in a hospital bed - the top part elevated so that you were almost sitting up. The bland room smelling of sterilization, and undertones of the artificial fragrance contained in soaps and cleaners.

You were in and out of consciousness throughout the week, and today - you have finally woken up.

Hawks was the first one you saw...

He was there every single day; missing even most of his Hero work. Even the Press was breathing down his back; questioning his whereabouts.

Hawks was a rare sight to begin with, but when they found out that he was making frequent visits to the hospital, the amount of security had to be doubled in order to keep prying eyes away from him. Everyone wanted to know 'who the Number 2 was visiting in the hospital so often'.

Would make the headlines - no doubt!

But Hawks' sidekicks made sure to cover what patrol routes he'd usually do. Also answering questions the Press pressured upon his agency. Hawks wanted to be there when you woke up. And the stir of the media wasn't going to keep that from him.

What an arduous week.

When you opened your eyes and came to, you saw the Number 2 Pro Hero leaned back in one of the chairs. His massive wings sprawled out towards the floor, and his legs propped up on a coffee table before him as he stared up at the ceiling. His arms also rested upon his abdomen with his fingers laced together - as if he were deep in thought.

His Hero outfit dawned upon his fit physique; insinuating that he was still ready for anything. His yellow visors pushed back on his head, and his headphones around his neck.

You silently admired the sight of the Number 2 Pro in your hospital room.

This man... who could be anywhere in the world that he wants... was here with you. Because he wanted to be.

But your heart monitor gave you away; the beating of your organ increased as you admired this bird man - and that caught his attention.

His head whipped your way as he quickly stood up - glad to see that you were finally awake and aware.

"Well, good morning, sunshine!" Hawks beamed. "Glad to see that you're finally awake."

Your muscles ached as you began to feel the bruises that probably littered your body. "Definitely not a good morning." You groaned. "But glad that I'm awake too."

And as he made his way to the foot of your bed - Hawks then rested both of his arms beside your legs, and sat down next to you.

You smiled in return, but that smile quickly faltered as you realized that you must look like a goddamn wreck.

You raised your hand to cover the lower half of your face - the SpO2 monitor clipped to your index finger beeped as you turned your head slightly to the side.

Hawks scrunched his brows together - your smile that transitioned to discomfort happened so fast - he knew you were feeling self conscious.

But to him... you were absolutely gorgeous. You were alive and well, and he couldn't be more of a happier bird.

Hawks inched closer to you, reaching for your hand as he gently guided it down and away from your face.

With a light squeeze from his palm, you could still feel his warmth through his black gloves. He then used his other hand to softly cup your cheek; turning you to face him once again.

"Please don't look away from me." He pleaded, his golden eyes formed into slits as he focused his full attention on you.

Hawks' hand then slid from your cheek and made its way to your chin; cupping it within his delicate grasp.
