"Can't be alone in a room with someone for more than five minutes without making them fall in love, huh?" Sapnap said sounding slightly offended, grabbing Karl's jacket from his arm and putting it around Karl's shoulders.
"You say that like I do something to make it happen." Karl grumbled, adjusting the jacket as he took a step away from Sapnap.
"Do you?" Sapnap asked quietly. Karl was saved from answering as George rolled down his window.
"You guys gonna get in or just stand out there and flirt all night?" George called out to them.
Karl cringed hearing his friend describe their interactions as flirting. Sapnap walked ahead and started to open the door for Karl. Karl grabbed the top of the door and finished opening it himself, stepping in without looking back at his best friend. As Karl buckled his seatbelt he could almost feel the phantom kiss that Sapnap gave his cheek when he buckled him in on their way to the airport.
Karl positioned himself away from Sapnap and looking out the window at the scenery as George began driving. He wasn't doing this to pout, he simply needed to not look at Sapnap. He had changed from his casual clothes to a pair of straight leg black jeans, a tightly fitted sweater, and had finally taken off his hat, his hair styled back. Karl knew if he allowed himself to peek at Sapnap he wouldn't be able to look away.
Karl shifted uncomfortably as he began noticing the smell of Sapnap's cologne waft over to him. In a desperate attempt to not get sucked into giving Sapnap the attention he clearly wanted, Karl cracked open the window.
George soon pulled into the restaurant, jumping out of the car eagerly.
"You guys are going to love this place, it's one of my favorites!" George said, a smile on his face. Although he seemed to be talking to the group, he only looked to Dream for approval.
As the rest of them stepped out of the car, Dream smiled over at George, nodding his head.
The restaurant was dark and classy, waiters in suits, and a calm buzzing atmosphere. Karl looked over as he saw a woman playing a violin, soft but beautifully, in the corner of the room.
"That could've been you, Nick." Dream said as he nudged Sapnap who stood awkwardly, shooting Dream a glare.
"Nick, you play the violin?" George asked excitedly, looking up from his menu at the performer.
"He was first chair throughout high school!" Dream eagerly answered for Sapnap, continuing to nudge his annoyed friend.
"Those days are long behind me, drop it. I'm never playing again." Sapnap said with an eye roll, looking over his menu at Karl who sat across from him. Karl pretended to read the vast menu, trying to process that there was a fact that he never knew about Sapnap.
George ordered a bottle of wine for the table when their waiter came over.
"I can't drink, why didn't you at least ask for water?" Sapnap grumbled looking at his glass as George filled it.
"Drinking age here 18, not 21. You're allowed to have a glass of wine." George laughed, not understanding American laws. Sapnap continued to just stare at the glass. Truthfully, other than a stray beer or two at a college party, Sapnap had never drank, let alone a fancy red wine.
Sapnap lifted the glass and took a slightly too large sip, nearly gagging at the wines bitter flavor. George and Dream laughed at this sight, even Karl let out a small chuckle as he took a small sip of the wine, enjoying its robust and dry flavor. The waiter returned to the table just in time to give Sapnap a disappointed look for his reaction to the wine.
Just as George was about to order, Dream interrupted him and ordered for him, followed by ordering for himself. This interaction made Karl and Sapnap lock eyes, quickly darting away from one another. Sapnap ordered after Dream, slowly looking up to Karl as he finished. Karl looked down at the menu for a moment before saying the first thing he saw to the waiter. Karl looked up to see Sapnap fighting back a smile.
Dream and George started talking about their plans for tomorrow while Karl tried desperately to focus on their conversation. Karl looked down as he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. He slowly pulled it out to see a text from Sapnap.
That's what I wanted to order for you.
Karl resisted his body's natural reaction to reading the text, keeping his face down.
I just ordered the first thing I saw.
He typed back furiously, putting his phone back into his pocket. Karl looked up, his face still slightly flushed.
"The wine already getting to you, Karl?" George asked with a snicker as he pointed out Karl's reddened cheeks.
"Yeah.." Karl responded, pulling his glass to his mouth, taking in a large sip.
The food came out shortly and Karl was relieved that the constant teasing and flirting across the table had stopped as they all ate quietly. Karl looked up to see Sapnap discretely switching his full glass of wine for Karl's empty one.
Sapnap scrunched up his nose and shook his head slightly when Karl caught him, trying to show Karl he just wanted to look like he drank his wine. Karl accepted the glass, taking another sip. The dinner continued and Karl began participating more in conversation, his inhibitions getting smaller with each drink he took.
Karl stretched out his legs under the table as Dream began filling all their wine glasses, except for George's who was driving, with the last of the bottle as George ordered dessert. Karl froze as he felt the familiar feeling of Sapnap pinning his leg in place between his. Karl turned his head to Sapnap, watching as Sapnap looked him in the eyes, smirking, as he took a sip of wine.
"Nick. Release my leg." Karl said, no longer feeling the anxiety he normally would about calling out his best friend. Hearing Karl be so direct nearly made Sapnap spit out the small sip of wine he took.
"I'm going to have to cut you guys off soon, aren't I?" Dream said with a laugh. Dream's cheeks were also rosy from the wine. He reached across the table and brushed his hand over George's, slowly holding it.
George pulled his hand back, unfortunately not feeling the same effects as his friends.
"You Americans clearly need better alcohol if two glasses of wine has you all like this." George rushed, embarrassed by Dream's obviousness. George looked away, flustered, as Dream gave him an adorable head tilt and smile.
Dream continued to smile at George, it only growing the more flustered George became. Karl stared at them with envy, while Sapnap stared at Karl.
They soon finished the elegant desserts, Dream insisted on paying for everyone, and they all climbed back in the car. Karl was regretting the third glass of wine, since Sapnap had stealthily given him his first glass. Karl closed his eyes, resting his head against the window for the drive back to the hotel.
Karl groaned and squeezed his eyes shut tighter as he felt himself being lifted from the car's seat.
"Nick, stop carrying me around. I can walk you dummy. You can't dump me and then act like this." Karl groaned as he wrapped his arms around the broad shoulders that were picking him up.
"What do you mean he dumped you?" Dream spoke, adjusting his grip around Karl as he continued lifting him out of the empty car.
