George laughed quietly, standing up from the table. "Come on now, we still have a full day of distracting to do."
Karl and Dream rose from the table, following George out of the small diner.
"Up next, ice skating!" Dream said happily, looking to Karl in the back seat.
"What?" Karl asked, horrified. "I don't know how to ice skate." Karl huffed.
"You can skateboard, same thing. It's just about balance." George answered, heading towards the rink.
"Since Sapnap isn't around, you can hold my hand." Dream laughed with a wheeze, causing George to shoot him a glare.
Karl rolled his eyes and leaned back. Part of him wished he could've just stayed at the hotel and waited for Sapnap. It was becoming increasingly more clear that he was just third-wheeling on the last date packed day George and Dream had planned and this wasn't just for him.
"It'll be fun and take up a lot of time. Just think of it that way." George offered with a soft smile, watching Karl pout in the back seat. Karl hummed a response, keeping his eyes out the window.
As expected, Karl spent the entire time at the rink a few feet behind Dream and George. Karl did his best to keep a smile on his face despite his anxiety growing in the pit of his stomach as each hour ticked by. Karl was able to muster a few genuine laughs as Dream clung to George's side, failing miserably at ice skating after talking himself up.
"Fuck this." Dream groaned, pulling off his skates as Karl approached. George stayed on the ice, doing a few more elegant laps before joining them.
"I should've offered for you to hold my hand, huh?" Karl joked, rubbing his feet as he pulled off his tight skates. He saw his second pair of socks peeking out, a smile forming on his lips before sliding on his normal shoes.
"So funny." Dream scoffed, rubbing his blistered ankle. George soon joined them, quickly taking off his skates as well.
"What's next?" Karl asked, looking down at his phone. 1:46pm. Sapnap never answered his last message. Karl looked slightly disappointed, deciding to double text him.
So I guess I'm better at ice skating than Dream :P
"Let's have a light lunch. Then, I think it should be time to get going. It's a bit of a drive to Nick." Dream answered, wincing slightly as he pulled his shoes over his sore feet.
"So soon?" Karl asked, unaware of when he became so nervous to the point he wanted to delay seeing the surprise.
Dream and George both chuckled at Karl's shock, standing from the bench.
"What, did you want to join us for dinner too?" Dream joked.
"You won't after what you see what Nick's planned." George added, resulting in Dream lightly elbowing him before taking his hand and pulling him towards the exit.
Karl followed closely behind them, his heart pounding in his chest. The three walked to a small café down the street. The clouds had begun to clear, the sun peeking it's way through and melting the small snow piles its light touched. Karl wished the sun could melt him too.
"I'll go grab us something." George said, walking towards the line and pointing at a table for Dream and Karl to sit at. Karl sat down silently, looking down to his phone. Still no word from Sapnap.
"You good, Karl?" Dream asked, watching Karl's demeaner begin to unravel.
"I don't know. I'm really nervous." Karl said blankly, still looking down at his phone, willing it to vibrate with a notification from Sapnap.
