"Wake up, love. We're home." Sapnap did his best to keep his voice quiet, using the arm he had wrapped around Karl to rub his shoulder."What?" Karl questioned, leaning away from Sapnap, a yawn escaping him. Before Sapnap could answer, an overhead announcement sounded through the plane.
"Hello passengers, this is your captain speaking. I ask that you all fasten your seatbelts as we prepare our descent to Charlotte Douglas International Airport here in North Carolina. The local time is 4:55pm."
Karl leaned back in his seat, groaning as he rubbed his eyes. The plane ride to England was much more peaceful than the plane ride back. He couldn't fall asleep for hours, the turbulence was bad at times, and there was a kid behind him kicking his seat the whole trip.
Sapnap reached over, kissing Karl's cheek lightly before buckling him in. Karl turned his head, hoping for a quick kiss, but Sapnap had already looked away to hand the flight attendant their garbage. Karl stared at Sapnap's profile, a warm smile on his face as he watched Sapnap fumble with the trash, apologizing profusely to the attendant.
Karl was still waiting to wake up- this all felt like a dream. The only thing persuading him that this was real was the black ring on his finger, four diamonds sparkling in the light from the sunset. He hadn't even been wearing it for 24 hours yet, but Karl couldn't imagine his hand without it.
"You keep spinning the ring, we'll have to get it resized somewhere." Sapnap said softly, sliding his hand into Karl's to stop him from spinning the ring around his finger.
"No, I like playing with it. It's not going to fall off or anything. I love it just the way it is." Karl smiled, leaning over to connect his lips with Sapnap's- with his boyfriend's.
"Mommy, look! They're kissing!" The young boy who had been kicking Karl's seat announced, clearly spying on them through the small crack between their seats.
"Then maybe you should give them some privacy." His clearly overtired mom responded back at a much quieter volume. Karl and Sapnap quickly separated, holding back a laugh. They each faced forward in their seats as the plane touched down on the runway.
"You remember where you parked my car, right?" Karl asked, as Sapnap stood to get their luggage from the overhead compartment. Karl was thankful that Sapnap always took the lead on getting their luggage. If it was up to Karl, he would be the last one off the plane. He was far too intimidated by the rushing crowds flooding into the isles.
"Oh, shit." Sapnap laughed, setting his luggage down first. "Not a clue." He grinned over to Karl before reaching back up for Karl's suitcase.
"Dummy." Karl muttered, unsuccessful in hiding his own smile.
The two quickly made their way off the airplane. Karl was thankful the security and TSA process was much smoother this time. They ended up not even having any difficulty finding the rest of their luggage. Everything seemed to be going well- too well. Karl knew their luck had run out when they were still searching for the car on the fourth floor of the parking garage.
"I swear I asked you to put a note in your phone about where we parked." Karl sighed, dragging his luggage behind him.
"Maybe you dreamt you asked me, seeing that you slept the whole ride to the airport and the entire flight there." Sapnap said back with a snarky tone. Sapnap continued to hold Karl's keys over his head, pressing the lock button repeatedly, hoping to hear the car horn in the distance.
"Are you really mad at me right now for sleeping? Sleeping?" Karl questioned, halting his pace, his arms crossing in front of him.
Sapnap sighed, also stopping. He adjusted his hat before turning around, his head hanging a bit. He walked towards Karl slowly, reaching out for Karl's hand once he was close enough.
