It was the day.

October 15th; The Masquerade ball had approached.

The castle enticed within enchanted lights, it was mystic.

Elise glanced at her mirror as she wore her diamond earrings, a slight sparkle winking at her. She then proceeded to wear her black sheer gloves, her mind streaming through several thoughts of the night that was to come.

She peeked at the clock that told quarter till' eight, she was ready, however her heart felt unsettling. She took in a deep breath, and put her hand on the door knob, reluctantly opening the door to step out into the deafening silence.

The most expressive eyes peered through the open door, eliminating the last vestiges of the night's weariness from her mind. They were the color of a bright blue sky seen through a shattered prison wall, a beautiful raindrop on a blue aster, and a river rushing to join the vast ocean.

Her heart skipped a beat, or two.

"You look exquisite" His soothing voice sliced through the fervent thickness of the air.

The common room's ebullient energy dimmed.

"Thank you" She managed to utter. She looked him up and down and smirked, he looked elegant in a suit yet carried a sense of feralness. His hair was neatly combed back with gel, yet some of his blonde strands had escaped and fallen on his eyes. Those eyes couldn't restrain themselves from admiring her beauty.

He held his hand out for hers as he adjusted his tie. Looking into her honey-glazed eyes as he lazily apparated them into the gates of the dance.

As the doors opened, laughter filled the air.

Many of the houses were already there, it was the Slytherins who were running a bit late, fashionably late as one may suppose. Some Gryffindors were already dancing, the Ravenclaws were chatting and the Hufflepuffs were getting drinks to loosen up.

On cue as they walked in, the waltz music began.

"Have this dance with me Elise" Draco inquired as he offered his hand, guiding her to the middle of the dance. She looked at him skeptically, it was odd hearing him enunciate her first name, but odd in a good way. She took his hand and glided with the music.

She put her left hand on his right shoulder and took his left hand with her right one. It was as if a spark ignited when their hands met. Goosebumps aroused her skin. She looked to the right to make sure she was following the dance, but he didn't like that.

"Look at me" Draco said. Her eyes caught his, staring deep into each other as he dipped her down.

She was breathtaking.

A room full of people and she was the only one he could see, the only one who mattered, the only one who was there; the only one.

And she was his.

It was time to switch partners in the dance, Elise smirked as Draco spun her to the left and she landed with Theo as her partner. "Hello gorgeous" He smirked at her with mischief.

"Why hello handsome" She grinned at him, making sure Draco heard. She then looked at him, smirking at the jealousy she had caused. Though she couldn't refrain from the envy that arose when she saw him with Emma or whatever that infernal Slytherin was called.

"Tell me I'm a better dancer than Mr.Porcupine there" Theo smiled. She just noticed what a great dancer Theo was, he wasn't as smooth as Draco who danced as if he had been doing it as a profession but he was still good. "You are, Theo" Elise unashamedly lied with a giggle.

She noticed Draco putting on a show for the Slytherin he was dancing with, charming her with his moves. Just three more moves, she reminded herself. Though she knew the waltz memorized, it was practically her family's culture to know this dance. They had practices every Monday at home. It was part of their etiquette.

She took another left spin and landed back with her original partner. "Missed you" Draco sneered. "Of course you did" She responded back with a smile of her own.

She switched to another partner, this time with Blaise. He had moves, a bit more groovy than the rest. Her eyes caught on Hermione who cleaned up well, she was being dragged to the dance by Ron. She then saw harry who was face palming himself for Ron's idiocy of being late to the dance.

And was that Professor Burbage dancing with Hagrid? That's an interesting duo.

Finally, she switched back for the last time, waltzing with Draco as if they were the only people in the room. He placed his right hand on her waist, tangling his other hand within hers. Her kissed fingertip connecting with his. His expression had a lot to say. He opened his mouth to say something but regretted it. It was as if the tension between them altered to a solemn one.

"Draco" She started but he stopped her. She didn't know what she was going to say, especially in the middle of the dance, but she knew she had to say something.

Something about the other night, something about the way she feels for him, something about -

Her mind was traveling to unwanted places, places where her heart was vulnerable.

A utopia of desire.

Could she really open her heart for him? Or was it already open?

What if it works out exactly how one would imagine it or even greater. What if they could actually work as a real couple.

Her heart skipped another beat as she looked at him. It was an intricate feeling.

Was this it? Had she really fallen for an angel? Or was he the fallen angel?

Lucifer?

She didn't even know what she was rummaging about as he spun her then spoke brutality.

"I don't want to be with you"

Her heart imploded into a million pieces.

Was he really holding her heart hostage and manipulating it like a toy?

He watched as her mouth parted and her eyes refined. He smirked. "I don't want to be with you because you drive me crazy, because you make me vulnerable, you -" He scoffed as he spun her again, rolling his eyes and watching her dress twirl.

"Dr-" Elise wanted to say but yet again ceased. "Shut up" Draco said as he continued, "I'm not used to feeling this way, you make my blood boil, you get on my nerves, you make my mind go limb'' He breathed out, "And I don't like it"

"Whatever game you're playing, quit it" He stated deviously. "You began this game Draco" She simply replied as she looked down at his lips.

They took three steps together, he looked deep in thought. Recalling his actions and trying to read her. Reminiscing the promise he made to himself.

A Game

"Does your heart really refuse to break?" He finally asked as he dipped her down.

"What heart?" She replied, still dipped down, looking up at his amazed eyes.

He spun her again, swiftly pushing her against him as he whispered the next three words that held eight letters into her ear.

"I hate you"
