"HEADS UP MALFOY! THERE'S ONE FOR YOU!" Blaise exclaimed at Marium. She titled her head up to her owl, Peggy fly in with a package and a letter.

The school were seated for breakfast in the Great Hall, preparing for another full day of classes until owls swooped in for letters. The whole room was in the oblivion of chatter and even screams from the rebellious older kids who Draco awed at but Marium recoiled at.

"Thanks, Pegs." She said to her owl. It nodded and fluttered away. She took the small package, moved all her plates and cutlery out of the way.

"Ooh! What is it?" Daphne excitedly asked.

"It's probably from father," Draco said as he took a bite out of a croissant.

"Open the package first." Blaise esthetically said as he leaned over to have a closer look. Draco was seated next to Marium so he laid his head on her shoulder to look. Daphne was seated with Blaise and together the pair shared wild looks.

Marium beamed at her friend's anticipation but then noticed Theo, reading another book.

"Hey Theo," she inclusively said, "Open this for me." She tossed the package over the table as Daphne and Blaise's gazes followed it.

"Really?" Theo surprisingly asked.

"Yeah." Marium grinned.

Theo was close to untieing the black silky ribbon until a proud Pansy pranced up to the table.

"Hey!" She smiled.

"Hey, Pans," Marium said. She rolled her eyes. Marium disliked Pansy, she believed that she was over the top in every possible way. Oh, and she had an obsessive crush on her brother. Which she does not approve of.

"Whatcha doin' ?" She smiled and sat next to Draco, who shifted to his left causing Marium to move.

"Nothing." Blaise awkwardly lied. He's such a bad liar. Pansy seemed to notice the package in Theo's hand because she reached over and playfully seized it.

"Liar." She giggled. Marium cringed. Pansy waved it around in the air in front of Theo's face until he snatched it back and the group burst into small chuckles.

"Well, I'm going to open it now." Theo opened the package and inside were a pair of black gloves. He tossed them to Marium and the group leaned in to watch her put them on.

"They fit." She said.

"You don't even care do you?" Daphne said.

"They're just gloves." Marium shrugged. But they weren't just gloves. Marium had these every year in a new size for her constantly growing hands. They were the world to her, but she knew that others wouldn't see that kind of worth. She pulled them on. They were just like the gloves she received on her first birthday.

The rest of the group went on to gossip about stupid Hufflepuff and pathetic Gryffindors.

"Hey Mari, there's a letter," Daphne said, passing an envelope.

Hi, Mari.

Mother and I are proud of you for making Slytherin even though you were announced as the longest hatstall. If I were you, I would place it into a positive perspective and think about your Wizarding World record! It's as if you're just as famous as Harry Potter.

Also, how is everyone? Draco's told me you've made friends. Just know that I won't be disappointed if you befriend mudbloods, as long as you aren't romantically involved with any. That will lead to horrible outcomes.

But, enjoy the gloves I've sent. Be good, and give my thanks and Hi's to Professor Snape.

Love, father, Lucius Malfoy.

Marium smiled. She loved her parents, but the knowing fact that they weren't her biological ones tore her every time. It was all she could think of these days. No matter what she thought of, her mind would always wander back to that fact. Actually, it broke her.

Everyone she knew had parents who were still alive.

Even freaking Harry Potter with his stupid and famous prophecy.

"Oh, there's this as well. I'm guessing this one's from your mother." Daphne spoke. She passed another envelope to Marium.

However, Marium noticed right away that this definitely wasn't from her mother. There was a messy red seal that showed an iridescent shimmer against the sunlight. But there was no picture.

Waves of wonder swarmed in again and she dilated with confusion. Daphne noticed this and hunched over like a buzzard.

"What's going on?" She said, concern evident.

Marium gave no response but simply unravelled the peculiar letter.

I like to see the stars at night.

1:00 am seems like the best time.

The month before the tenth seems fine.

What? The letter was definitely not from Mother.

"Ooh! Do you think it's from a secret admirer?" Daphne giggled.

"No way," Marium cringed, "I'm literally a hatstall. I think someone's playing tricks on me. They're trying to doop me in. No way."

"What does it even mean?"

"No idea. And I don't want to find out." Marium shoved the letter into her skirt pocket and the girls joined in on their friend's conversation. But she couldn't help but think that someone could be attacking her.
