Chapter 16: Fever

Liana's in the Talon and then she sees Clark. Liana says, "Clark, hey, I thought that your mom was bringing over the prizes for the raffle." Clark says, "She was, but she came down with something this morning. My dad's at the hospital with her." Liana says, "Hospital? It sounds serious." Pete says, "Do they have any idea what's wrong?" Clark says, "They're still waiting on some test results." Chloe says, "Well, they have to know something. I mean what were her symptoms?" Clark says, "What is this, an interview? She stopped breathing, okay?" Liana says, "You know, this whole even was your mom's idea. Maybe we should just postpone until she's back on her feet." Clark says, "No, I appreciate the thought, Liana, but she's gonna be okay... and she'd be really disappointed if we canceled." Chloe says, "Clark, I didn't mean to just..." Clark says, "It's okay, Chloe. I'm gonna get back to the hospital." Later, Liana goes to see Clark and says, "Clark." Clark says, "Hi, Liana." Liana says, "I just wanted to make sure you were okay." Clark says, "It's weird how random memories can just pop into your head, huh? When I was in second grade... I was afraid to go to school because I thought my mom would disappear while I was gone and never come back. I wouldn't even get on the bus in the morning until she promised she'd be there when I got home. Sure enough.... everyday, there she was when I walked through the door." Liana softly smiles and says, "Don't worry, Clark. In a few days, you'll walk through the door and your mom will be there again. Clark, you okay? Clark. Clark!" Clark then falls down the stairs and is knocked out. Liana hurries down the stairs and goes to check up on him. Liana says, "Clark!" Then Dr. Helen comes and says, "What happened?" Mr. Kent says, "Liana, would you, would excuse us, please?" Liana says, "Yeah." Liana leaves worried about Clark.

Two days later, Liana goes to see Chloe in the "Torch".  Liana says, "'Attach of the killer mold spores?'" Chloe chuckles and says, "Yeah. I'll never look at blue cheese the same way again." Liana says, "I couldn't bring myself to go back and visit Clark when he was sick. Does that make me a horrible person?" Chloe shakes her head with a smile and says, "No." Liana says, "I guess it just really scared me to see him like that." Chloe nods and says, "Me too." Liana says, "It kind of makes you realize who's important in your life." Chloe says, "Yeah. And who's important to Clark." Liana says, "What do you mean?" Chloe says, "Nothing. I'm gonna head home and finish changing for the benefit." Liana says, "Oh, are the programs ready?" Chloe says, "Yeah, they are. They're right behind the desk. I'll see you there." Liana says, "Thanks." Liana then heads to where the programs are and picks up trash and then finds a love note written by Chloe for Clark. Later, Liana goes to the benefit and sees Clark and says, "Clark." Clark smiles and says, "Hey, Liana. This is a great party." Liana says, "Your mom deserves a lot of the credit. Is Chloe okay?" Liana says, "What happened to you really affected her. Me too. It was really hard seeing you sick. Guess I somehow always thought of you as invincible." Clark smiles and says, "Now you think I'm just human." Liana says, "I guess that's my way of saying that you mean a lot to me, Clark. And I know it's not that eloquent... but I guess some people are just better with words than others."
