Chapter 22: Calling

Liana goes to see Clark and she's holding a box with a cake in it. Clark says, "Liana. It-it's almost midnight." Liana smiles and says, "Yeah, I took a chance you'd still be up. Are you getting a head start on your term paper?" Clark says, "I've have to give the toast at Lex's rehearsal dinner. Makes European history seem like a breeze. Am I supposed to guess what's in the box?" Liana says, "No. You're supposed to close your eyes. Don't peek." Clark covers his eyes with his hands and Liana opens the box and lights the candles on the cake. Liana stands in front of Clark and Liana says, "Okay." Clark opens his eyes and Liana says, "I know, uh, it's not your birthday for another seven minutes but I wanted to surprise you." Clark stands up and says, "You did." Liana says, "I get the feeling it's not in a good way." Clark sighs and walks away and says, "It's just, it's not really my birthday. It's just some date that my parents picked off the calendar for the adoption papers." Liana walks over to Clark and stands in front of him and says, "Maybe some of us wanna celebrate the day you came into our lives." Clark softly smiles and says, "I never thought of it that way." Liana smiles and says, "Make a wish." Clark says, "I've been wishing for the same thing ever since I was five." Liana softly says, "And now?" Clark says, "And now I don't have to." Clark grabs the cake from Liana and sets it down. Clark grabs both of Liana's hands and says, "She's standing right here in front of me." Clark leans down and kisses Liana and she kisses Clark right back.
