" and my hopes,
they are high,
i must keep them small "
___________

"it's been weeks, why are you still trying?" her friend kana sakamoto asked.

"it'll take time." she watched him quietly perform movements with his pencil into a book. from the looks of it, he was sketching.

not once did riki bother starting a conversation with her but due to her determination, she was not going to give up. for once, she wanted to know him.

his world.

"I'll be back. gonna head to the bathroom." kana said before heading off in the other direction.

perhaps she had been too lost in thoughts that she didn't even realise riki had left. as she spun her head around to try to catch a trace of him, he was nowhere to be seen.

"so you're kimura." a stranger said. they weren't exactly strangers since they attended the same school but that's the gist.

"and you are?" yui tilted her head in confusion.

"that doesn't concern you." she rudely implied. just by her response, she and her little friends were up to no good.

"so...?" yui said to find their intention.

"you need to stop trying to talk to nishimura so much. he obviously isn't interested and you should just give up." she spitted out with no mercy.

"riki nishimura we're talking about?" yui asked, trying to find the right page.

"yeah who else." one of the girl's friend replied.

"ahh i see." yui nodded her head. "and why's that?"

"because you're obviously making him uncomfortable."

"what's that got to do with you?" yui raised her brows.

"well nishimura is basically our prince in our school and you should not bother him."

yui couldn't help but muffle a laugh. she didn't know girls like them really existed in real life.

"damn well, you're a junior. don't think you should worry about someone else besides yourself right now." yui shrugged taking a glance at her name tag.

"that is none of your business." kimo gritted. "stop being a pick me in front of him. he will never be interested in you. no one would ever be interested in a girl like you." she yelled out.

despite knowing she should not take it to heart, she couldn't help but rewind her words a bit. ' no one would ever like a girl like you ' along the lines.

perhaps, that did hurt her a bit.

"who said i wasn't interested?" a deep male voice spoke from her behind.

her smile curved up the second she recognised his voice. as she turned to face him, she gave him a smile. even though he didn't bother to give one back, what he said made her joyous. even if it was to be an act.

"nishimura senior- oh that was a misunderstanding, we were just-" kimo tried to explain but kept stuttering.

"let's go." riki ignored the junior girls and signalled yui to follow him.

maybe he did care.

or he couldn't stand the sight of being the hot topic between his annoying miss second place and some random strangers.

"so, are you finally interested in me?" yui smirked playfully knowing damn well what the answer would be.

"how foolish." he rolled his eyes.

as expected.
