Chapter 17: Together Forever

Tonight's the night. This night everything changes.

I'm currently standing beside Maurice, and walking down the aisle is Pema, Ikki, Jinora, Opal, Ming-Hua, and Kuvira even though she's technically been married to him for almost eight months now.

The sun is shining brightly making them look absolutely stunning. I felt so proud of both Maurice and the two who I consider being the closest I've had to sisters.

I looked over at Korra who quickly began smiling. We both have the same kind of relationship with them. We exchanged a knowing glance before hearing them exchange vows. After that was over, it was time for cake and gifts. It wasn't long though before they retreated inside. Apparently, they ended up scheduling the wedding on their due dates. It's also a large coincidence that most of them were due on the same day.

Ezor dinged his spoon against his glass drawing everyone's attention.

"Everyone, even though we just witnessed the marriage of my son and his wives. It's time for us to celebrate the uniting of a man, who I deem to be like another of my sons or a fun cousin."

Tempest arrived at the wedding causing even Ezor to bow. It seems that even they have some history here.

"No, actually, he brought me here as his father. So, thank you, but he's my son."

Everyone laughed at that, me and Korra gave a nod before heading inside to change into our wedding attire. I donned a tuxedo as my substitute best man entered the room.

"Hey, we should probably head out soon, it's almost midnight. Plenty of things like to howl in the night." I laughed before straightening my suit a bit. He walked over and adjusted it correctly before opening the door for me.

I walked the aisle first just before Korra exited her dressing room. She looked absolutely stunning.

I couldn't help but let my jaw hang for a moment before regaining my composure and bringing my attention back to her face which seemed to laugh knowing what was going through my mind.

"Hello, handsome."

"Hey, beautiful."

I said while offering my hands as she stepped up to the altar. We went through the whole ceremony again but this time we were the main focus. I looked at the audience and found Tempest and his date sitting in the front row.

It was time to say our vows.

"Korra, I fell in love with you the moment you praised me for our first win together. I wanted nothing more than to be the one that makes you proud every single day, and I hope to continue that for as long as we both live. You are my rock, my flowing river, the breeze that carries me and the fire that burns inside of me."

She didn't know what to say, she was just going to give a generic vow but now, she had to give it her best.

"Y/n, at first I thought you were annoying, and a troublemaker. You were lazy and depressed, but despite that, you still made it your mission to make me feel better when I was feeling down. You put me on your shoulders even with the mountain that was already on your back. Thank you for carrying me, but now, I'll carry you."

We both stared at each other for a moment before we continued on. Bolin handed us the rings and we placed them on our fingers.

A dark metal ring, with a blue jewel inside of a lotus flower. Korra's eyes sparkled when she saw it. After all, it matched her blues.

I slowly placed it on her finger as her tears overflowed. She had then placed mine on.

"I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride."

She grabbed my face and pulled me in before wrapping her arms around the back of my neck as our lives were now inseparable. I watched as Tempest left hand in hand with his date.

"H-hey, where are you going the party is just getting started."

"Look, it was amazing raising you. I never got to know what it would have been like to raise a son hands-on, but you... you will always be like a son to me. Have a great life, I'll see you again someday don't even worry about that."

Some tears were shed between us but I know him to be true to his word, we'll see each other again.

We had cake and danced like there was no tomorrow. Except, there was one thing that I've been waiting for since I first met Korra. I grabbed her hand and led her into a dark orb that appeared just outside of the party.

We entered and found the void. I brought her to the bedroom which has a huge bed made from angel feathers. She lay in the bed already eager to start the night.

One Week Later...

We left the void with our hair ruffled and clothes were nearly torn apart. There were loud machines that took people places and ones that flew in the sky. However, the obvious sign was the guy soaring through the sky.

"Korra, welcome to Metropolis."

Two Thousand Years Later...

We had both seen many worlds and lived many lives. But true to our words, our love never died. The same can't be said for ourselves. Eventually, we had enough and decided that it was time.

The truth is... even shadows can fade away.

Now, we reside in a place simply called, the Shadowrealm. Where those chosen to carry the mantle retire... well, more like take breaks, after all, does anyone like us really retire?

Maybe in a few millennia, she and I will become our old dynamic duo again, but for now, we're content just being here, with each other. After all...

Isn't that what really matters?
