-in which nina salazar-roberts believed that she could find her soulmate; though being in denial of who he is.
"you do that." big red exclaimed after her as she walked towards her english classroom.
when she walked in, she noticed ricky slumped in his seat at the very back of the class. he looked up from his notebook that had been out and gave her a half-smile before looking back at his book
nini exhaled, making her way to sit down next to the seat at which seb usually should be sitting at, but he's sick today so it was empty.
"alright, i'd like you all to take out your notebooks so that we can swap them over with your assigned partners." the teacher exclaimed
nini froze suddenly.
she hurriedly shuffled through her bag for the notebook her teacher had given her, opening it to find the pages empty.
this never happened. she never forgot to do her homework. she never didn't complete an assignment given to her.
but to be honest it had slipped her mind. she'd been so focused on dance and her other subjects that she forgot.
though not wanting to admit it, nini was also wrapped up in what was happening between her and leo.
lately he'd been doing so many nice things. just the day before he got her flowers - but not just any flowers; roses. it had to be another coincidence, right? it had to be. but at the same time, why would she want it to be a coincidence? she really liked leo. she liked to dance with him and she liked spending time with him.
"miss salazar-roberts, you're with mr bowen."
"what? i'm not with him." nini said confused, the class going silent as the teacher raised her eyebrows before nini widened her eyes "oh! f-for the assignment!...yes. um...okay."
the teacher nodded before continuing to assign the partners and nini felt a presence sit down in seb's empty seat beside her.
"woah, is that book empty?"
she looked to the right to see the curly-haired, leather-jacket-wearing boy sitting there, his smirk on his face as he folded his arms
"the day has arrived. nina salazar-roberts didn't do her homework." he said dramatically
"only because i was busy with my other homework's and not to mention that the dance auditions for the showcase are today so i have to make sure that everything is perfect and also i had other things to worry about but that doesn't mean this is going to be something usual, it's a fluke."
ricky raised his eyebrows and blinked a few times "okay. relax. i was just kidding."
nini exhaled slowly and nodded "thank you."
"you know you don't have to work so hard to be this perfect person." he said, lowering his tone
"you've already told me this-"
"because it doesn't get through to your head." ricky grinned, causing for her to shake her head with a light smile
she looked up at him "thank you."
ricky returned her gaze and nodded "you're welcome."
"i don't know how i'm supposed to-"
"nini, can i see your assignment?"
the brunette looked up at the teacher and opened her mouth "um...it's-well-"
the woman glanced down at the opened notebook. the pages were empty.
she glanced back up at nini before sighing "i'm sorry nini, but if you didn't do the work, it'll have to be a detention-"
"but miss i really can't have-"
"you didn't do the work assigned."
"i didn't either."
nini and the teacher both glanced to the curly-haired boy who had no notebook on his desk
"and we're paired up. so technically we can't do the assignment if none of us have anything written down." ricky explained
"what are you-"
nini got cut off by feeling him nudge her foot under the table to shut up so she did, looking down at her desk
the teacher exhaled deeply and nodded "alright. well...you'll both have an extra week to do the assignment. and if it's not done then detention for both of you. okay?"
"yes." they both said in unison.
the teacher gave them one more look before walking over to another pair.
nini turned in her seat to face ricky "you didn't have to do that."
ricky raised his eyebrows and exhaled exaggeratedly "'thank you ricky, you're the savior in my life.'"
nini rolled her eyes playfully, shaking her head with a chuckle "thank you ricky."
the boy nodded "don't even worry about it."
"so, um...how's the duet going?"
ricky shrugged "lily's a pain."
nini let out a light laugh "nothing new."
"but we're definitely going to win." he grinned challengingly
nini raised an eyebrow "excuse me? nope. not even in question of who's going to get those roles because my duet will win."
"we'll see."
they both looked down at their desks before nini took out her pen
"we should get started on this." she reminded him
"oh, yeah. right." he agreed, starting to get his own notebook out to start writing but glancing at the girl every once in a while.
