She looked beautiful

She looked beautiful.

Her dress flowed gently behind her as the winter breeze flitted through the garden. Her father had his usual stern expression but this time it was laced with irritation as they moved up the aisle.

I smirked as I looked at her dress then towards her father. I'm not surprised she wore something like that. Mara De La Riva, I have learned does not live inside the box.

She separated from her father when they arrived at the alter which was really just a raised platform with some steps. I could see her smiling gently at Bella who stood beside Santiago. Her gaze darted from Bella, to Santiago, to Gio who stood only a couple feet from me. She grinned at Gio with a big goofy smile, revealing the dimple on her left cheek. I had noticed that as of recently, she didn't have two, just one.

Her three brothers had been glaring at me as we had been waiting for her, Emilio and Lucas sitting in the front row.

If looks could kill, I'd be six feet under. The three sets of her brothers eyes harbouring the promise of pain if I were to even look at Mara wrong. If I were in their position, I'd be doing the same to Bella's fiancé.

Actually, no, I wouldn't just loom the threat of death over his head. I'd kill him before he could get anywhere near my sister.

She joined me at the alter, our backs facing the congregation. A collection of family members and allies had been invited to witness the union of the Italian and Spanish Mafia. Never had I imagined that I would be marrying Mara De La Riva. A woman who I have hated since a young child.

After living in our estate for the last little while, she has caused nothing but chaos for myself and my security team. She's a wild little spitfire that always has something to say but after a short while I realised it's all not that bad.

After sometime it was finally time for the vows, I turned to her so that we were facing and took her hands in mine. I looked down at them, her hands were so small compared to mine, it was strange.

She didn't seem to be paying very much attention, as if she was lost in a train of thought. The priest coughed to grab her attention and motioned for her to speak.

She shifted on her feet, the loose strands of hair framing her face blowing gently.

"I, Mara De La Riva, take thee, Leonardo Moretti, to be my wedded husband. To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, until death do us part. This is my solemn vow."
