Chapter 8

Matt's POV: Once we got all of our things together, I smiled as I brought it all to the door so that we wouldn't forget it today. However, what I wasn't expecting was for the doorbell to ring this morning. "Gabby, you invite somebody over?" Walking out with both of our boys, Gabby smiled. "I may have invited your sister prior to the ceremony." I just laughed and agreed with her when she said that. "How nice. Thanks babe." Going to walk over to her, I decided to go grab Andy from her. "But let me have him. I am going to hold him." Gabby agreed with me, smiling as I went to kiss her softly. "I love you and I am so proud that you are now a Battalion Chief." I smiled and agreed with her. "Listen, I need to go see my sister." Gabby nodded and smiled. "Bagel okay?"

Gabby nodded and smiled. "Of course." Going to look at Andy, I smiled as I just cuddled up to him and then went to kiss his cheek. "C'mon little man, let's go see Aunty C." Walking over to the door, I smiled as I went to open it to see my sister there. "Well, if it isn't my new Battalion Chief brother and one of my adorable nephews." I laughed and smiled as I went to go hug her. "I was shocked when you said that you were going back but...I'm glad that you are going back." I nodded and smiled. "You're not mad that I'm going back to where mom died?" Christie shook her head when I asked her that. "Of course not. But what I am mad about is that you haven't asked me whether I want to hold this little guy." Stepping in, Christie took off her jacket and smiled before taking off her boots. "Hey Andy. You remember?" She then grabbed him and smiled. "So, are they going with you today?" I nodded and just laughed as she walked away.

"Of course, you steal my son right away." Christie nodded and agreed with me. "You used to do the same thing with Violet when she was this age." I nodded and laughed when she said that before looking at Gabby. "You want me to grab Noah for you while you make breakfast?" Gabby nodded when I asked her that and smiled at me. "That would be very helpful." Walking over to her, I smiled before going to come get Noah from her. I was just glad that she already fed him because that meant that he can cuddle up to me more often. "I still can't believe the boys are almost 2 months old." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "Honestly, neither can I. They have grown up so fast already." I nodded and smiled. "Just wait, someday they will be my candidates on Truck and Engine!" Gabby laughed and agreed with me when I said that.

Going to walk back into the house, I smiled as I walked back into the kitchen. I was thinking that I was going to be making breakfast, but Gabby just stopped me. "Matt, you are not making breakfast. Go cuddle up with the boys. I am making you breakfast because you are the one who is going to be on your feet most of the day. Just go relax with your sister." I nodded and agreed with Gabby when she said that. "Don't have to ask me twice." Gabby laughed and just agreed with me when I said that, watching me walk over to the living room so that I can rest with my sister. "So, how are you doing sis?" Christie smiled when I asked her that. "I am just nervous about the fact that we are going back to the firehouse for the ceremony." I nodded and agreed. "Stay with Gabby and it'll be okay. But she is staying at the house with me today so I can help."

Christie nodded and smiled. "You are worried about him aren't you Gabby?" Gabby nodded when Christie asked her that. "Of course I am. He's going back to the CFD. Then again, he is going back as Chief." I nodded and smiled at her. "Which means that I am going to be extra safe...I promise okay babe?" Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that, going to put some toast in the toaster while also getting some eggs out. "You have your jacket right babe? And those other clothes." I nodded when Gabby asked me that. "Yes, my jacket is at the door with our overnight bags and my laptop. I already have it set up. And the stroller is in the Tesla." Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that. "And so are their cribs for the firehouse. We can keep them there." Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that. "I was going to suggest that." I agreed.

"Well, that is what we are doing. Now listen, we don't have very long here. We need to get out of here soon so that we can unpack ahead of the ceremony." Gabby smiled and agreed with me when I said that. "By the way Matt, I am shocked you are even going back." I sighed when Christie said that. "Yeah, it was the right thing to do. My old boss got promoted and there is nobody else who is qualified to follow in his footsteps. I am next in line." She agreed with me and smiled when I said that. "Just remember to be safe.": I nodded and smiled when she said that. "I will. If not, I have to hear it from my wife." Christie laughed and agreed with me when Is aid that. "I can see you getting in pretty big trouble with Gabby if you aren't careful." I agreed and smiled. "But she already knows that I am going to be extra careful. Her and the boys are my world."
