Hitting Reset Season 3: Family Life Part 1

Chapter 25

Matt's POV: Once me and Gabby finished having supper with everybody, I smiled as we decided to go relax in our bedroom for a bit. I could do some work later when she and the kids are asleep. (I decided to stay awake more in the night and just take naps while I'm here). Then again, I am sure that Gabby is going to want to sleep in my arms, so not like I am going to have any option other than sleep. Going to walk into my office and then into our bedroom, I smiled when I saw Gabby checking on the boys. "They still asleep?" Turning to look at me, Gabby nodded and smiled. "Yeah, that means that we have a minute." I nodded and agreed with her when she said that, walking over to her so that I could wrap my arms around her. I just want to hold her for a bit because I have missed her today. Walking up to the cribs, I smiled as I wrapped my arms around her and then moved to kiss her forehead softly. "How has your day here been so far?"

Turning around to look at me when I asked her that, Gabby just smiled at me before laying her head down on my chest. "Honestly, it's been great so far. It's been fun being here again." I nodded and smiled when she said that.  "I'm glad you feel that way because I expect you and the boys to be here every shift." Gabby smiled and agreed with me when I said that. "There is nowhere I would rather be than with you." I nodded and just smiled when she said that. "How about we get in bed okay? I am sure that you want to just lay down for a bit. I can stay for a while." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "But can we start that conversation." I sighed but agreed with her. "I think we should. I need to know what's up babe." Gabby agreed with me when I said that before going to get in bed so that we can sit together. Looking at Gabby as she got comfortable, I smiled as I came to join her in bed.

Once me and Gabby were in bed with each other, I smiled as I went to wrap my arm around her and just cuddled up to her. Doing the same with me, Gabby wrapped her arms around my torso and smiled as I looked down at her. Putting my hand on her arm, I went to lean my forehead against her as we looked at each other for a minute. I am never going to be able to say that I am not automatically comfortable the minute that me and Gabby are holding each other close. "I am so comfortable right now." Gabby smiled and agreed with me when she said that. Just looking up at me, Gabby smiled at me. "Listen, about what I said out there." I sighed and agreed with her when she said that. "You want to start talking about it now?" Gabby nodded and just smiled at me. "If we don't...it'll get in between us like last time." I agreed and sighed, knowing that was the truth. "I'm sorry about that, you know that right babe?" Gabby nodded.

Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that, going to rub my chest as we held each other close. "So, where are we going to start this conversation?" I sighed when Gabby asked me that and just went to put my hand on hers. "How about we start with what's going on in your mind?" Wrapping my arm around her back, I went to tug the covers up to keep her warm. "Gabby, this wasn't the plan. We were going to wait." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "I guess it's related to Otis." I looked down into her eyes when she said that. "Matt, listen...I get that you say that you are going to be safe. And I believe you babe, I really do okay?" I nodded and agreed with her when she said that, just hearing her out because I knew already that she needed to get this out. It was on her mind and she needed to talk to me about it so that it didn't become a secret that could cause problems for the both of us in our marriage.

Kissing Gabby's forehead, I just held her close to me. "I am just worried. I want us to have the girls, I want you to experience that. I want to see you as a dad to our daughters. Heaven forbid something happened." I nodded and agreed with her when she said that, trying to calm her down. "I get it Gabby, trust me that I do okay?" Gabby nodded and smiled when I told her that. "What I don't understand though is why you are thinking this way just 2 months after giving birth. Babe, you aren't even cleared to go back to Ambo yet." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that. "I'm just worried. And I guess I am also thinking about my fears babe. Right now, I am a new chief....and that already has enough stress because I am dealing with a death on my first day. Gabby, I really hate to say this but...I don't know if I can deal with the stress of you being pregnant this early into my new job here as Battalion Chief." Gabby sighed and nodded.

"But Gabby, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't be happy if we got pregnant." Gabby agreed with me when I said that and just looked up at me. "What does that mean?" I smiled at Gabby. "I was going to use condoms whenever we get intimate but....I could always just not use them and we can leave it up to faith? I mean, we did that with the boys and we had them. Now listen, I get that we really conceived them before you left but..." Gabby just nodded. "I get what you mean." I smiled when Gabby said that before bending down and going to kiss her softly. Taking it slow with her, I smiled at her. "What do you think about it though? Just leaving it up to faith? I mean, after a few more months. Sorry but, I need at least a few months before we really start trying." Gabby looked up at me when I said that. "Maybe we can start trying after summer okay?"

Gabby smiled when I said that. "Let me guess, you want to see me in my bikini for a bit before we get pregnant again?" I laughed and smirked when she said that. "I am not opposed to that idea. Plus, then we have 18 months at least in between kids." Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that. "Even though I did really like that dream of you telling me that you are pregnant at the beach over your birthday." Gabby nodded and agreed with me when I said that before going to wrap her arms around my waist as we both held each other close that night. Kissing her forehead, I smiled at Gabby because I was really glad to just be holding her like this right now. I am so comfortable and I just hope that I don't need to get up for a while. "Plus, we can't steal Kelly and Stella's thunder. We need to wait until they are done being pregnant." Gabby agreed.

Just cuddled up to me, Gabby smiled as she laid her head down on my chest. "I am just stating it for the record...this doesn't mean we are not going to stop having sex. Maybe just for now...we can be careful." I nodded and agreed with her when she said that. Going to push her chin up, I smiled her and then went to kiss her softly. Taking it slow with her, I smiled because this sounds perfect. "I love the idea of being to still make love to you even though we aren't trying for a baby." Gabby nodded and smiled when I said that. "Plus, I have been pregnant the entire time I have been home." I nodded and agreed with Gabby when she said that. "Maybe you can even come back to the CFD for a bit." Gabby shook her head. "Not with twins. I want to stay out babe."

I nodded and agreed with her when she said that. "Okay. But listen, if you want to take a nap while I am holding you, you might want to start now. I am not sure if we are going to have a quiet night or not." Gabby nodded and just smiled when I said that, laying her head down on my chest as we held each other in my bed. Kissing her forehead softly, I smiled as we just laid down there together. God, this is so comfortable and I am so glad that I have my family here with me right now.
