The end of summer approached with a bittersweet air, signaling the time for me to leave behind the sun-kissed days and balmy nights of our summer house. But more importantly, it marked the moment of farewell between Noah and me, as I prepared to embark on my college journey. I hadn't told him yet but I had chosen NYU.

Noah and I had chosen to meet at our cherished beach, a place that held an abundance of old memories. We had come to that beach every day in the summer for the past 10 years. As I arrived at the familiar shore, the golden hues of the setting sun painted a serene backdrop for our parting. Noah stood there, his gaze directed towards the infinite horizon, and when he turned to see me approach, he graced me with a warm smile, though his eyes shimmered with an undeniable sadness. He knew the burden this day would carry. We would either walk into the sunset together or say our goodbyes. My emotions welled up inside me, threatening to overflow. I stepped closer to him, my voice quivering as I confessed, "Noah, you have to know that this is one of the most difficult things I've ever done." He nodded, and right then he understood this would be a goodbye, "I know", he said.

I picked up an envelope from my bag, the sides were already ripped since I had received the letter at the beginning of the summer. I handed it to him, my hands shaking with the feeling of uncertainty weighing on my stomach, was I doing the right thing?

Noah slowly opened the envelope and removed the off-white letter from inside. A wave of hot air hit my face, as he read the letter I could feel my face burning, the air in my lungs evacuating to the sun-kissed day we had dreaded so much.

"Going to NYU is a dream, but leaving you behind feels like I'm leaving a piece of my heart right here", I said breaking the silence. Noah, understanding the gravity of the moment, gently took my hands in his. His eyes held a poignant mix of love, longing, and determination. He reassured me with a soft smile, "Milly, from the day we met, I knew you were destined for incredible things. I believe in you, and I'm incredibly proud of the opportunity you have", he paused, his glare shifted to the ocean, as if the next words coming out of his mouth were too painful to say out loud, "But I won't pretend it's easy to let you go."

Noah's lips met mine in a passionate kiss. The fiery union spoke of our enduring love, a connection rekindled after months of separation. It was a promise, a silent vow of waiting amidst life's uncertainties. As we finally parted, his whispered words of love and patience filled my heart, "I'll be waiting for the day you return to me", and I knew that our future together would be worth the wait.

A tear trickled down my cheek and despite the heaviness of the situation, a fond smile graced my lips. "I will always love you, Noah Flynn."He held me close, his voice soft but filled with determination, "And I'll be here, ready to love you even more when you return."

Days later...

"And you told me that I would never be ready in time", I turned to Elle who was watching as I struggled to place all of my clothes in my travel bag. "Em, we're 30 minutes late!" Elle said as she pointed to the watch on the hotel room's wall. "Shit", I placed the last of my clothes in and stuffed everything until the zipper closed. "Are you guys ready?" Dad said as he and Brad popped into our room. "Yes!" Elle said as she grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the room. We exited the hotel to the middle of the city that never sleeps.

Weeks Later...

As I ventured into the bustling and unfamiliar world of New York City and the NYU campus, my first week became a whirlwind of chaos. Classes proved to be more challenging than I had anticipated, and the city itself was intimidating.

But I wasn't alone. Beth had moved to New York to spend her gap year with me. She was my unwavering support, offering encouragement, sharing laughter, and helping me face the daunting challenges that came my way. Towards the end of what felt like a disastrous week, I found myself in a cozy little coffee shop. Seated at a small table by the window, I sipped my coffee while watching the urban life unfold outside. It was then that a stranger approached me, a young man with a kind smile and warm eyes."Mind if I join you?" he asked. For a moment, I hesitated, but there was something about his friendly demeanor that put me at ease. I finally replied, "Sure, go ahead."We began to chat, sharing stories and laughter, and I couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope in this unfamiliar city. Maybe this newfound connection was a sign that, despite the challenges and the miles that separated Noah and me, there were still new beginnings waiting to unfold.

a quick note:

this was a pretty short chapter. We are getting really close to the end of the story and I hope you guys like the way I wrap things up. The following chapters will take place after they have both graduated and are working at their jobs, kind of like at the end of the third movie, but I will spend more time on them and hopefully give them the proper ending.
