I set the groceries on the counter and take out my cutting board. I grab a knife from the drawer and start chopping away at the vegetables. "Are you excited for Antonios birthday tonight?" I ask Alejandra, taking a second before looking at her. She turns her head away from the art she was working on and towards me. "Yeah! I get to see all the magic!" She shouts. I smile widely and fix my gaze back to cutting. I finish up the carrots, moving to 2 corn stocks instead of all 3. I cut down the sides and make sure they're all split up.

I remove as many veins from the celery as I can and make thinner slices than the other veggies. Picking up the board, I watch as they all slide into the big pot boiling with broth for chicken soup. I wash the board in the sink and clean up my station. "Watcha drawing?" I ask Ale as I sit down in the chair next to her. She sets down her pencil and holds up the picture for me to see. "I'm writing a card for Antonio!" She exclaims. I study it for a second and realize she's spelt her words wrong. But it's cute and I wouldn't want to ruin her confidence, so I don't say anything. "That's sweet. I'm sure he'll love it."

"Do you want to color too?" She asks. I smile and nod. We color together for about 15 minutes until our soup is ready. I grab 2 clay bowls and pour in the soup. "Now be careful, it's still hot." I warn Ale. I set the bowls down and move all the crafts out of the way. "What do you think Antonio's gift is gonna be?" She questions and I blow on my soup. "I don't know. Maybe he'll have a super sense like his sister or a shifty gift like his brother." I respond. She stirs her soup around and takes a bite. "I bet it's gonna be the best one yet!" Ale nearly yells. After we finish eating, I take our bowls to the sink and rinse them out.

As I dry off my hands, I hear a knock on the door. "Hi! I hope it's ok to let myself in." Cindi, Alejandra's mother, says. "Oh no, of course. Come on in." I tell her, even though she's already in. "Mami!" Ale shouts, running towards her mother. She runs into her, pushing her back a little, giving her a tight hug. "Wow, someone's happy today." Cindi says. "Thank you so much for watching her again (Y/n), you're a lifesaver." She reaches into her purse and gets her wallet. She takes out 40 pesos and hands it to me. "I'll see you at the Madrigals tonight." She gives me a wave. "Bye (Y/n)!" Ale yells, shutting the door.

I stand there, trying to figure out my plans. I head to my room and open my closet. 'What do I want to wear?' I think to myself. 'Nothing too fancy but something that will say your gift is going to be the best!' Yea, I don't think I have that. I grab a dress off the rack and go to try it on. It's red but as it nears the bottom it fades into yellow. An ombre if you will. I sit at my desk and start to brush through my hair, putting it up into a neat bun. As I stare at myself in the mirror, I feel my outfit is missing something. I go back to my closet and put on my flats. Now I feel ready.

I swing my door open and notice everyone has already started their way to Casita. I follow the flow of people and watch all the excited kids run around and hop in and out of wagons. Approaching the top of the hill, I notice Luisa taking the donkeys pulling wagons and putting them in an animal pin. I walk further and see Camilo greeting and shifting into everyone at the entrance. "Hola (Y/n). I'm glad you made it." He says while shifting into me. "Hola! You look gorgeous by the way." I respond as I see him blush. He looks down and realizes I was actually complimenting myself.

"Oh." He laughs lightly and changes back to himself, rubbing the back of his neck. I give him a smile and continue walking to Casita. As I enter I notice more colors than ever before. The gleeful people, the delicious food, and best of all, the enchanting magic. How casita moves and how the family is so sweet and gentle with their gifts. I look around, still stunned at the sight. It's beauty is beyond compare. Gazing at all the colors and feeling the beat of the music makes me joyful.

Camilo's Pov
As less and less people start to show up, I head inside. I say hi to the people who wave to me and begin looking for Antonio. I turn around and walk backwards trying to spot him but I trip and fall on the ground, hitting someone in the process. "Aye! Eso duele!" I hear them shriek. I pick myself up and dust myself off as I see (Y/n) on the floor, holding her head. "(Y/n)! I'm so sorry! Are you okay?" I ask hoping she isn't hurt too badly. I hear her groan and mumble under her breath. "Yeah, my head just feels like it's spinning."

She says and I put my hand out to help her. She takes it and stands upright. Her breath hitched for a minute as she removed her hand from her head. Her hand stained with little blood as I notice her head bleeding. "Oh goodness. Come, let's get you one of my tías arepa con queso, it'll help." I say, taking her by the hand into the kitchen.
