Chapter Four

Just as the clouds had predicted a light rain began to fall on the already miserable hobbits. Frodo walked ahead of everyone and kept his eyes on the road ahead. He tried not to show the pain that he felt inside but when the rain came down so did his tears.
'She doesn't hate you Frodo.' a small part of him told himself. 'Yes, but what if she really did but she had never shown it.' another part said. 'If she never loved you then she wouldn't have kissed you that day when you left.' He pushed the good thoughts away and thought of all the negatives.
'She didn't want to come on this journey at all. She came because she was forced to by the Darkness.' Frodo did something that he had never done before. He looked up to the heavens and said to himself, "If there is any kind of God out there I have one request. Will you help me find my way on this path of shadow? I am lost and have no where to turn, where ever I go it is shrouded in darkness."
He then brought his attention back on the road and continued to trudge on.

Cody walked alongside Sam who helped her walk through the mud. Her control over her legs was returning and she barely limped as they traveled.
"I'm sorry Sam." she croaked.
"For what Miss Proudfoot?" he asked.
"For what I did to you today. I said things I shouldn't have and then flicked you aside like a fly."
"You do not need to apologize for something you didn't do." he scolded. "The Darkness is using you because it needs a host in order to do anything. Never apoligize for something that the Darkness did through you."
Cody looked at him with a small glint of happiness in her eyes but then winced in pain. Sharp pains shot through her left leg as if thousands of needles were pricking her.
"I think we need to rest." Sam called up to Frodo.
"No, we mustn't rest now!" Sméagol complained, "We's almost to the marshes."
"Yes, but she cannot go any further. She needs to rest before we pass through there."
"But-" Sméagol began.
"We will stop here for an hour and then carry on." Frodo said with out even turning around.
"Yes nice hobbitses."
Frodo turned to Cody and she saw longing in his eyes as he looked at her. As quickly as he had turned around he shook his head and then set his stuff down away from the group. Cody watched the back of his head as it gently bobbed up in down with the timing of his breathing. She would never harm him and wanted to protect him from anything that would try and hurt him.
♪"Clouds will rage and
Storms will race in,
But you will be safe
In my arms.
Rains will pour down,
Waves will crash around,
But you will be safe
In my arms.
Castles they might crumble
Dreams may not come true,
But you were never all alone
'Cause I will always, always love you."
As she finished the song tears ran down her face for Frodo gave no reaction. She turned her head just as he had turned his and missed the look he gave her. Sorrow filled his eyes along with love, a small smile formed on his face but it did not reach his eyes. When he saw that she wasn't looking he turned away and stared at the never ending plains.
"There it is." Sméagol breathed. "The Dead Marshes."
---------Cody's song: In My Arms by Plum. When do you think Cody and Frodo will "get back together?" Should they? Please leave a comment, I haven't received one in a while and I want to know what you guys think of my work-------------
