Chapter One

As the trio walked into the dense forest Cody could hear a fair voice on the wind.
"Na lû e-govaned vîn, galu."
She turned around and on the other bank stood Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli. Legolas had his right hand up in farewell and, one by one, they turned around and disappeared into the shadows. She still wished that Frodo had stayed with the Fellowship but she knew that it must be done. She didn't want anyone to be hurt by her own burden either. She could have hurt Aragorn or the hobbits that day she lost control. Or the elf that was to blindfold her. She knew she must accompany Frodo on his quest to destroy the Ring.
"Are you coming?" Frodo asked. He and Sam had stopped when they realised that she wasn't with them.
As she stood there her heart raced with panick. Her stomach felt sick and she thought her legs would give out. "Merry and Pippin weren't with them." she choked.
"What?"
"We need to go back." she said with more strength.
"What are you talking about? We cant go back, we have to keep going."
"No, you don't understand. Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas were on the other bank but Merry and Pippin weren't with them." she almost cried.
"Are you sure?" Sam asked her.
"I'm positive, why would I lie about something like this?"
She turned to Frodo and waited for his answer, he seemed deep in thought when he finally said, "We have to keep going. If something really did happen to them Aragorn could cure them."
"But what if they're dead?!" she demanded.
"Why would they be dead?"
Sam began to say something but then held his tongue. They both looked at him until he finally confessed. "While we were looking for you, Frodo, we barely heard the one note from the Horn of Gondor. Boromir would only blow that if the enemy were attacking."
Frodo drew out his sword but when it came out of the sheath it was silver, no blue glowed on it. "We have to keep going."
"But-" Cody tried to argue.
"If you would like to go look for them then go." he said in a tone she had never heard him speak in before. "I'm sorry." he spoke more softly.
The two began to walk deeper into the woods and left Cody to stand alone on the tree line. She stared at the opposite shore and watched as the sun began to climb higher in the sky. She debated on whether or not she should cross back over the river. She needed to know if Merry and Pippin were fine but she needed to help destroy the one thing that kept the darkness alive.
When she had almost made up her mind she heard a horrible, garbled scream not far off. She took off into trees and almost tripped over Sam. He laid on the ground trying to hold down a creature that writhed on the ground.
"No, don't hurts us." it begged.
Sam moved just enough that she caught a glimpse of the creature's face. She caught her breathe as she recognized the large, blue eyes and the pale, paper thin skin.
When he had calmed down Sam got off of him and the three watched as he hunkered down in terror of the hobbits.
"What is it Mr. Frodo?" Sam asked as the creature cried softly and would occasional say, "Mean hobbitses."
"Gollum." was all he said. Gollum turned to face Frodo with his big, watery eyes and said, "Yes?"
"Gollum? You mean that nasty creature Bilbo always told us about?" Sam asked in discust.
"Yes Sam." Frodo crouched down and cautiously approached Gollum.
"No!" Gollum cried.
"Your name's not Gollum is it? You've been called something else before, haven't you? Sméagol."
"Sméagol." Gollum tested out the word on his tongue but then cried, "No! Gollum! Gollum!"
Frodo stood back up and looked at his companions in confusion. "What should we do?" he asked.
"I'm not sure but I don't think we can trust this thing." Cody said first.
"I agree with her Mr. Frodo." Sam joined in. "I think we should tie him up until we can trust him." As much as that idea pained Cody she agreed with Sam on that.
"Very well." Frodo said at last. Frodo obviously hated the idea as much as she did by the way he took time to answer Sam's statement.
Sam walked over to his pack and began to rummage through it, murmuring to himself as he did so. Finally, he pulled out a coiled piece of grey rope and strode back over to Gollum. Considering how much he hated the vial creature he gently tied the rope around Gollum's ankle.
"No! It hurts us! It hurts us!" Gollum screamed.
"I didn't even tie it that tight!" Sam explained and put his hands up.
"Curses the magic people. Ow!" he howled.
"What should we do with him?" Cody asked. She couldn't stand the tortured screams from Gollum and she knew how it felt to be tied up like a dog.
With out answering her question Frodo walked over to Gollum once more and asked, "If I take these off of you will you be our guide to Mordor?"
"No! You don't want to go to the black gates!" Frodo stood up and began to walk away when he called, "No, we'll be a good Sméagol. We promises, we takes you to the black gates for the nice hobbitses."
Frodo smiled, bent over Sméagol and untied the elven ropes. He picked up his pack and walked into the trees with Sméagol at his side like a faithful dog.
"I do not think that was the smartest thing to do." Cody told Sam.
"I agree with you. We cannot trust this Gollum."
"Come one slow pokes!" they heard Sméagol call from farther away in the trees.
Hesitantly, they followed the path Frodo had taken and disappeared into the tress.
-----------Sorry this chapter took so long I've been busy with school and sports (as usual). Hope you enjoyed!!:D--------------
