Chapter Sixteen

The rest of the day the hobbits marched with their guides behind them, leading them on the smoothest route. The Rangers were honorable men and kept their word. They gave the hobbits clean water whenever they were thirsty and a small bite to eat when they were hungry. Whenever one of them would stumble the guide would gently help them on their feet and wait until they could walk again.
Only once did Frodo stumble and could not get up, even with the help of his guide. Sam asked if he and Cody could be left alone with him so they could tend to Frodo. The Rangers simply dipped their heads and melted into the forest around them.
As they traveled farther and farther away from Mordor the Darkness would give out small shrieks of longing for the dark land and would try to turn her around. Cody tried to push it aside and would have to stop her body in order to use all of her strength to push it. In one of these small battles the Darkness seemed to have gathered all of its strength to fight her. The blow it gave her knocked her to her knees with a small crie of pain. When she was weakened and distracted it delivered another blow that caused her to crumpled on her side.
"Sir," her guide said, "Ba chóir dúinn cabhtú léi?"
"Níl," Faramir responsed, "Tá throid sí go leor de na cathanna ar a chuid féin. Fág di a bheith." and with that he turned around and disappeared into the surrounding trees. All his men cast her sorrowful looks as she looked up pleadingly at them.
"Ognir indz , khndrum yem:" she cried to them using her own voice but in the tongue of the Darkness. Her guide just shook his head and followed his Captain into the trees along with the other men. Her body was racked in another wave of pain and she cried out for anyone to help her. "Frodo, pahel indz." she whimpered.
"I don't understand." he said as he knelt down by her side.
"Pahel indz." she cried over and over.
"I don't understand." he cried again. Grunting in pain, she hauled herself over to his side and curled up next to him as she flinched every time the Darkness tried to move her.
"Hold me." she forced out of her mouth.
"Of course my love." he cried. He held her in his arms like a mother holds her only child. He rocked her back and forth and began to hum their lullaby. He watched as the tears rolled down her cheeks and as her eyes slowly began to droop. After only a few minuets she laid limp in his arms with her head resting on his chest, fast asleep. "And I'll be with you when you dream." he whispered the last line into her ear.

"Sir, why can't we let them go? She is suffering from the Darkness that is inside of her." Cody's guide, Boromis, questioned Faramir.
"I need to take them to my father, the power that the other hobbit has will help us in winning this war."
"But if we let them go and the hobbit destroys the Ring then there will be no war!"
"There will always be war Boromis. It's how this world works, no matter what we do there will always be a battle raging around us."
"Why can't you see the world through my eyes, Sir? There is no need to keep them as prisoners. Let them go Sir, they are the only ones who can truly save Middle Earth."
Faramir looked at his cousin and pondered his statement. He knew he was right but he had already made his decision and he wasn't going to change it. "I'm sorry Boromis-"
"The Ring Bearer loves her Faramir." Boromis threw at Faramir and he began to raise his voice, "He is doing all he can to protect her, look for yourself." he parted a branch that was in front of them and revealed the small clearing that the hobbits were resting in. Frodo was holding Cody his arms and was rocking her back and forth as she slept. Tears rolled down his face as he stroked her hair. "You would do the same thing for Fellicia." he said gently.
Faramir looked at the scene with true sadness written all over his face. His eyes began to water and when the first tear fell he did not wipe it away. He knew he would do the same thing for his love but he had to take the hobbits to his father. "The halflings will be protected by the White Walls of Gondor." he finally replied.
Boromis gave him a shocked look as he said this and stood frozen to the spot. He could not believe that Faramir refused to look at the situation the way that he did.
"Prepare the men, Boromis, we head back out in ten minutes. Tell the halflings as well and get them ready."
"Yes Sir." he said in a whisper and saluted him until he disappeared into the woods. He looked back over at the hobbits and saw that Frodo was looking up at him as if he had heard the whole conversation. Boromis shook his head for he knew the halfling was asking a question that he knew the answer to, 'I'm sorry my little halfling,' he thought to himself, 'I tried and I hope you understand that I did not want any of this to happen.' Frodo seemed to understand and dipped his head slightly before he turned his attention back on Cody. 'I am truly sorry.'
---------- Sorry this chapter took so much time. I've been super busy with school work and sports. I've also had writer's block for a while so that was another reason. Hope you guys liked it! ~God Bless ----------
"Sir," her guide said, "Can't we help her?"
"No," Faramir responded, "She has fought many of these battles on her own. Leave her be."
"Help me, please." she cried to them...
"Frodo, hold me." she whimpered.
"Hold me." she cried over and over.
