Chapter Fifteen

Faramir listened intently as the two hobbits told him of their adventure. Only once were they interrupted when one of his men whispered something in his ear in a language that only they knew. Farmir's face grew grave as he took in what the man said and then sent him on his way. When the hobbits had finished Farmir sat in silence for several minutes before he finally spoke.

"You are not telling me everything my young halflings." he said leaning forward. Cody and Frodo exchanged worried looks for they did not tell the man of the Ring. "Our people have legends of two halflings that carry great power. We know that out of you hobbits that traveled to Rivendell two of you are the ones from our legends. Why else would my brother Boromir travel to the Elven city?"

"And how do you know that we are the hobbits that carry these burdens?" Cody asked.

"Because," Faramir said leaning even closer, "You are the one that carries the Great Darkness. You are the one who are people fear. Look around! None of my men want to be near you, much less look at you!"

At Faramir's intense words Cody's head began to pound with every word he said. She clenched her teeth and squeezed her eyes shut until she couldn't take it anymore, "Enough!" she screamed, "The Darkness is gone from inside of me! I killed it myself with my own blade that I carry with me now."

"You do not understand one thing." he said in a deep voice.

"And what is that?" she spat.

"The Great Darkness can only be destroyed by the destruction of the One Ring. As long as it remains whole the Darkness still lives."

"I have already been informed of this and it is a lie!"

"A lie, or just a fact that you do not want to accept?" Faramir asked in a very gentle tone.

"I didn't want any of this to happen to me." Cody's voice began to shake and tears welled in her eyes as she continued, "I never asked for this! The night that my life ended everything had changed for me. I finally found out that the boy I loved, loved me in return. Is that why the Darkness chose me? Is that why all of this has been happening? Because I love the Ring Bearer?"

"Cody it's okay." Frodo soothed and wrapped his arms around her.

"No it's not okay! I'm not Cody Proudfoot, I am not the girl everyone thinks I am. I was turned into a monster that night. This never should have happened. Why must any of this happen? Why would the Darkness choose a hobbit when it could have choosen a man who is far more stronger? I'm not strong, I did as the Darkness told me and didn't try to resist. I am weak, I just want this to end!" and with that she reached for her sword one last time.

"Cody!" Frodo shouted and lunged at her. He tried to pry her hands off of her sword as she screamed and tried to take it from him. When she had finally given up Frodo tossed her sword to Sam who caught it by the hilt and placed it next to him.

"Why did you do that?" she sobbed and leaned into Frodo's chest.

"Because I love you." he whispered as his own tears began to roll down his face. All Cody could do was sob into his shirt as Frodo held her close and rocked back and forth. Her mind was numb and she had no idea as to why she did what she did. "Can't you help her?" Frodo demanded Faramir who had sat back and watched the whole thing unfold before him.

"Nothing can help her now Ring Bearer." Faramir said, but the way he called Frodo Ring Bearer sent chills down his spine.

"I can help her." he growled, "I need to get to Mount Doom immediately, let us go so I can save her."

"I'm afraid I can't do that." Faramir said and shook his head, his eyes were filled with true sadness, "I have to take you to my father, Denethor. If I bring him the Ring of Power then maybe I can finally win my father's love. He always had loved Boromir and thought of me as a nobody. Even with Boromir gone I am still nothing to him." Tears brimmed his eyes but he quickly wiped them away before his men could see.

"Faramir, have you ever loved someone so much that you would lay down your own life for them?" Frodo asked.

"Yes Master Halfling, I do. I would do anything for her, even laying down my own life."

"Then let us go so I may help the one I love." he said and held Cody tighter, "I need to rid myself of this burden so she may live. I have carried this thing for far too long and the consequence of that is she has had to carry a more horrible burden than I. Please, let us go." he pleaded.

"I can't, I have to take you to Gondor." he said and stood up, as he did this men appeared from behind trees, bushes and out of the very ground it seemed like. They all wore a dark green shirts with brown pants. Swords were strapped to their sides and some carried bows that were slung over their shoulders. "We make for Gondor!" he called to him men and they all cheered.

"If we must go then may I ask one thing?" Cody asked. She had heard all of Frodo's and Faramir's conversation even though it seemed barely louder than a whisper to her.

"And what is that my Lady?" he asked.

"Let us march on our own free will, do not bind us as you would a prisoner. Do not carry us or drag us along if we stumble or fall. Wait for us to rest if you may for we may be only hobbits but we still have a pride. Being drug or carried would be humiliating, I'm sure it would be the same to you."

"It would my Lady, if this is your only wish then so be it." he said dipping his head. He then spoke sonething to his men in a language that sounded like some form of Elvish to the ear. His men nodded to his words and three of them stepped forward and walked behind the hobbits as they marched. They placed their hands on their shoulders as guides, following their Captain's orders. However, the one leading Cody seemed hesitant to touch her and murmured under his breathe, "Cosain dom ó an ceann dorcha." over and over to himself.

----------Okay, who has seen the Disney movie "Cyberbully"? You know the part when she tries to open the bottle and she cant but her friend tries to take it from her? Imagine that with Cody and Frodo (that's what I pictured anyways) So, I know this was short but I promise the next one will be longer.

Cosain dom ó an ceann dorcha is Irish for Protect me from the dark one. Gondor doesn't have their own language except for the Common Tongue but the nobles learn a form of Elvish so I just made the soldiers be able to speak it and I made it Irish so at least I know there is a translation for it (I also speak some Irish so that's another reason why)--------
