Chapter Twenty-Four

"Cody," Frodo whispered in her ear, "It's time to wake up."
"Please, just let me sleep for just a few more minutes." she groaned.
"But we're already in the city." Cody blinked open her eyes and saw that they were surrounded by stone structures and she was lying on a cobblestone road. Sam was leaned up against a wall and Sméagol was frantically trying to take his rope off that a Ranger was holding. "How long have we been here?" she asked and sat up.
"Only around ten minutes." as he was speaking Cody could hear something fastly approaching them.
"Do you hear that?" she asked.
"Hear what?"
Cody ignored him, rolled over and crawled like Sméagol to the edge of one of the stone structures. She crouched down like a cat and bobbed up and down as she was listening. Slowly, she began to hear a familiar voice on the wind and the sound of horse hooves beating the cobblestones.
"Orcs! The Orcs are coming!" the rider yelled.
"Boromis?" she asked to herself.
"Ullmhú le haghaidh cath!"
As he said this shouts began to spring up among the soldiers and the sound of swords being drawn echoed off of the stone walls.
"Boromis!" Cody called to the rider and stood up from her hiding place.
"Cody!" he replied and reined in his brown steed. The horse neighed in defiance and slid to a stop in front of the hobbit. Steam rolled off of the sweaty pelt and the horse's nostrils were flared and red as it gasped for air. He stomped his black hoof against the stones and snorted once. "Easy Phillip." Boromis patted the horse's proud neck as the horse calmed down.
"What's going on?" Cody asked.
"The orcs, they are arriving sooner than what we thought." he said, he then rode his horse over to the hooded ranger. "Bretan, cá bhfuil Faramir?"
"Tá sé i gcearnóg an bhail an sean gaire don abhainn." the Ranger replied and pointed towards the river.
"Go raibh maith agat." Boromis nodded to the man. "Farewell Cody, I hope to see you once again."
"Let us hope that it will be on better terms the next time." Cody said to her friend
"Indeed, maybe I shall see you in the white halls of Gondor if the war is in our favor. Or maybe I could see the rolling hills of the Shire. Farewell and may your sword stay sharp Cody of the Shire."
"And also to yours Boromis of Gondor."
"Rith Phillip, reáchtáil mar má tá tú sciatháin ar do crúba." he chanted to his horse and urged him into a furious gallop.
"I can't do this Frodo." Cody whimpered when Boromis had gone.
"Yes, you can," he reasured her and put both of his hands on her shoulders and made her look him in the eyes, "This is not your first battle. Remember Moria? the orcs did not harm you there."
"But we are not in Moria, were are in Osgiliath and a more powerful foe is after me."
"I know." he whispered and put his forehead against hers. He placed his hands on the back of her head so she could not draw away from him. At first he thought she would try to push away but was glad when she didn't. He breathed in her scent and was instantly reminded of the Shire; he could smell the daffodils that grew in the lush meadows and the smell of the air after a spring shower.
"I'm scared." she said after some time. Frodo was shocked when she said this, this was the first time on their adventure she admitted she was scared. She tried to be strong but she gave up on herself constantly, but never had she said she was scared.
"Don't be afraid, I will protect, just as I said long ago." he tilted his head to the side and gently pressed his lips against hers. He felt as if nothing was happening in those few short seconds. It was as if there was no battle about to happen, no Ring of Power and no Darkness inside the one he loved. He could have stayed like that forever but they eventually had to separate.
"Thank you." she whispered.
"For what?" he asked and searched her face for the answer.
"For coming into my life that night in the tree. That was the best night of my life. I would gladly do this all over again if it meant being by your side."
"Thank you." he smiled.
"For what?" she giggled.
"For everything; for going to the courtyard everyday, for being in that old tree and for loving me the same way I love you. You know, if we were in the Shire I would tell you to go pick out a white dress."
"Oh Frodo." she cried. She pulled him into another kiss and wrapped her arms around his neck. "When all of this is over," she whispered when they drew away from each other, "I will."

"Run Phillip, run as if you have wings on your hooves." Boromis chanted to his horse as he sped away. He hated lying to the hobbit girl, he knew that no one would survive.
"Orcs! The orcs are coming!" he yelled at all of the soldiers and Rangers that he passed. As he raced passed them he heard swords being drawn to be polished and the horrible grinding noise of weapons being sharpened. As he rode into the town's square he spotted the familiar grey cape of his Captain, "Captain Faramir!" he called.
He reined his horse to a smooth halt and gracefully hopped off of the horse's back. His legs were tired from his long ride but he refused to show it. He pulled the reins over Phillip's head and lead him over to his cousin.
"What news do you bring with you Boromis?" Faramir asked as he strode over to meet the Ranger.
"The orcs are coming sooner than we thought, Sir. By nightfall they will be crossing the river and they will pass through the bridge as well."
"Who told you this news."
"One of our scouts who has been searching for them."
"Why didn't he just come to Osgiliath and tell me this himself?"
"Because where he was stationed he would have been spotted by the Enemy. If he would have gone around it would have taken too long, it was quicker for him to come to Ithillien."
"How many did he say there were?"
"Too many to count, Sir. He said that we are mere ants compared to their forces."
"We will have to make do with what we have, Gondor is too far away to supply us with reinforcements in time."
"What shall you have me do Sir?"
"Rally my troops, tell them to sharpen their blades and polish their armour, we will slay many orcs tonight."
"Yes Sir." Boromis soluted to his Captain and began to climb back on his horse when he felt a hand come to rest on his shoulder. He turned around and saw love shine in cousin's eyes.
"Stay safe Boromis, you are like a brother to me."
Boromis placed his hand on Faramir's shoulder and replied, "I will, but, you must stay safe too." he smiled.
"Deal." Faramir smiled as well and squeezed his cousin's shoulder before he clambered into the saddle.
"Farewell, may we see each other soon." Boromis said before he spurred his horse away.
----------Did you guys think this chapter was too cliché? I mean with Frodo and Cody? Anyways, I hoped you liked it I will edit it tomorrow. ~God Bless----------
"Prepare for battle!"
"Bretan, where is Faramir?"
"He is at the old town square closest to the river."
"Thank you."
"Run Phillip, run as if you have wings on your hooves!"
