Chapter 16: Ask

Arlo's Apartment, 4:45 PM

John and Seraphina left the room together leaving behind Remi, Isen, Elaine, Blyke, and Arlo.

"So Blyke... Whatcha doing here with Arlo and John. I thought you still didn't like him?" Remi asked.

Blyke eyed Isen angrily, knowing full well that he was the reason Remi was able to find them.

"Uhhh..." Blyke was about to speak.

"He's here because I deemed him not ready to take over as king" Arlo began the lie. "I recruited John as a favor since his ability is useful for this."

Looking as if she believed it, Remi seemed satisfied with Arlo's answer. But that didn't stop her from asking another question, prying even further.

"Can I join?" She asked. "I bet John has some interesting ideas that could help me advance too."

Before Arlo had a chance to speak up, both Elaine and Blyke answered simultaneously.

"No" They said in unison.

The look on Remi's face was pure shock, but soon turned to disappointment as she realized they didn't want her to get stronger out of fear that she would continue her vigilante missions. Arlo gave her a stern glare, one of caring and concern as he thought of her late brother, Rei. Part of the reason why Arlo so easily gave John a second chance was because he saved her from a similar fate as her brother.

"I agree with them Remi, I'm sure you can guess why" Arlo stated.

"That's not up to any of you!" Remi responded. "Either I train here, or I'll do it myself."

Remi had taken her stance, unwilling to be bullied out of it for what others believed was best for her. Although she had showed her resolve, none of the three opponents of her idea were going to give in, but she still had one option left.

"Fine. If none of you want to okay my idea, then I guess I'll have to ask John!" Remi said, turning towards the door.

"Remi come back!" Blyke yelled to her.

"Don't interrupt them!" Arlo added.

"Too bad! John can multitask, we all know that!" She replied defiant.

"Elaine! Stop her!" Arlo called to Elaine.

Hearing Arlo's words, Elaine jumped into action throwing herself in front of the stairs that John and Seraphina went up. But to no avail, Remi simply out maneuvered a slower Elaine and started jumping up the stairs two at a time to keep her head start.

The other three followed, hot on her heels, but caught up to a Remi who was standing still in the doorway, looking into the room in awe. When the others caught up, Arlo was the first to speak up for good reason.

"WHY! WHAT WAS THE PURPOSE FOR THIS!" He screamed at the sight.

John and Seraphina went up the stairs to a room away from the others so that they could talk in private. Once inside John looked to her.

"What is it" he asked.

"Before I begin, can you feel any auras near us right now?" Seraphina requested.

Moving around to each corner of the room so his range could reach farther, John looked back at her and shook his head confirm that he felt nothing.

"Good. I have to be careful where and when I talk you know" she added.

"Ah! That must be why you cheap shot me that night, can't let anyone know we were talking, right?" John threw at her.
