Chapter 12-Race to Fireworm Island

Selene's POV

It's been a few weeks since the Screaming Death incident and now Snotlout has completely lost it. He's been pushing himself and Hookfang nonstop and I'm getting worried about the dragon. "Ever since Alvin and the Whispering Deaths attacked, he's been training nonstop." Astrid told Hiccup after he asked what was wrong with the moron. "I've heard he's been flying all night for the past week." Fishlegs added his input then the twins being the twins were going off topic. "Stop right there. 1. this doesn't have to do with Snotlout and 2. You guys are either extremely brave or incredibly stupid." I told the twins and they helmet bashed each other. Then Snotlout and Hookfang came flying in. "So.... tired....." Hookfang panted. I hopped off Crystal and started to check Hookfang out. "Poor guy." I told him and gave him some of my water. Snotlout then told us that his dad tells him that "rest is for the weak" and that was so stupid.

"No, rest keeps us going. And if you keep pushing Hookfang too hard then..." I was cut off by Snotlout being Snotlout. "You're just worried that I'll surpass you miss #1." I was so close to punching this guy, but Crystal grabbed me with her teeth and brought me away from Snotlout before I gave him a broken jaw. "Let's get going with our training exercise now." Hiccup told us and I know he was trying to keep me distracted before I killed Snotlout. "Let's do this! Unless you're all too tired." Snotlout then flew off and I saw Hookfang falter a bit. "I can name one thing I'm tired of." Astrid and I spoke in unison. We all flew off and Hiccup explained the training exercise. Basically, Astrid and Stormfly were gonna be the bad dragons and we couldn't get tagged or else we're out. Crystal immediately cloaked herself and I jumped off her and towards the ocean. Crystal then flew down and grabbed me and brought me to her chest. "Let's follow Hookfang. In his state, he's not gonna be flaming for long." I told Crystal and she nodded.

We followed them for a while, till Stormfly's scent came to us. I then saw Hookfang trying to flame up but couldn't. Crystal uncloaked herself and grabbed me with her claws and heaved me into the saddle. "Get Hookfang to the academy now!" I told Snotlout with a very pissed off expression. Snotlout steered Hookfang towards the academy and the others were following us. By the time we got there, Hookfang was loosing his color. Hiccup got the Book of Dragons and started checking all the symptoms that could mean that Hookfang was... dying. Sadly, all the symptoms were there. I walked over to Snotlout and grabbed his arm and threw him towards the walls. "What was that for?" He asked me as I took my sword out and pointed it right at his face. "You moron!! Because of your stupidity, Hookfang might die!" I screamed at him and I ran out of the academy. I ran for a while till I lost my footing and tripped and rolled down a hill. I gathered myself up and climbed up a nearby tree. "Why is this happening again?" I asked myself with sadness in my voice.

The reason I'm sensitive to this is because and Elder Monstrous Nightmare had the same symptoms as Hookfang and he died. He was like a grandfather to me and Crystal and losing him felt like getting stabbed in the heart over and over again. I sat in the tree for Thor know's how long until I heard a familiar roar. I looked up from my lap and was met with Crystal's face. "Whoa!" I screeched and fell backwards, luckily I hooked my legs around the branch and was now having upside down. "Really? You had to do that?" I asked her while she helped me to the ground. "Yes I did. You ran off without telling the others and now they're worried about you. I understand why you ran off, but they don't." Crystal told me with a soft voice. I just sighed at her "You're right. I just don't want Snotlout to go through the pain that we did." I told her as she wrapped her wings around me and hugged me close. "I know, sis. I know." We stayed like that for a while then we decided to head home. When we got there, Hiccup was waiting outside with Toothless and when he saw me, I saw a sigh release from his mouth. "Thank Thor you're ok." He told me as he ran up and hugged me as I got off Crystal.
