24 | what feels like the end

is often the beginning

2023 - South Dakota

two weeks later

The television in the corner of the room echoed through the house as Ben, Phastos, Druig and Makkari sat in front of it, watching the reporter talk about the Celestial that was now a marble statue in the middle of the sea. Hestia was standing behind the couch that held the other three Eternal, leaning on the backrest.

"You guys did that?" Ben questioned.

"I love you so much." Phastos responded with his mouth full of pizza, causing Hestia to laugh. "I mean, all credit goes to Sersi. Or should I say Sylvia now?" She teased Phastos, who glared at her, making her put her hands up in defence and quickly stroll over to the kitchen.

Thena was trying to warm her hands up by putting them into the toaster.

"Are you okay?" Jack asked her.

"I get confused sometimes." Thena stated as she pushed the toaster back, leaning on the countertop.

"Yeah. Me too." Jack comforted her. He went to reach for the orange that was stacked away in a rack too high for him to reach.

"So, dad said you're the goddess Athena." He said, jumping up, trying to reach the orange. Hestia waited to let it unfold, wanting to see if Thena would help him.

"Thena. Drop the 'A'." She informed him.

"Oh." Jack sounded surprised and Thena nodded at him and hummed.

"What's your superpower?" He quizzed. That was when Hestia felt the need to step in.

"Woah let's not demonstrate tha- " She was cut off by Thena's sword plunging right into the orange Jack wanted to grab a few seconds ago.

Phastos ran over to them, anxiously chuckling. "Okay. All right. See, that thing is... Okay." He stuttered.

"Almost gave you a shave and a haircut, didn't she?" Phastos remarked. "Stand behind me, actually." He pulled Jack behind him, shielding him from Thena, scared she might whip out another one of her weapons.

"Um, you remember earmuffs?" He asked Jack. "Remember how we practised earmuffs? Thank you so much." He thanked his son as he held his hands over his ears and Hestia put her thumbs up to him, making him smile.

"You know that your babysitting privileges are completely revoked, right?" Phastos waved his arms around to make his point clear. "Like, it's done."

"Thank you." He looked back at Jack, who took it as a sign to lower his hands from his ears again, allowing him to hear the conversation. "Violence is never the answer. Right, T?" Thena agreed with him, purely because there was a child in the room.

"You always gotta use the brains, hmm?" He told Jack. "Yeah, because without your dad's brains, we wouldn't be alive today." Hestia praised the inventor, but at the same time, Thena had wanted to make her point.
