N I N A

"Miss. Adams, may I have a word with you?" Mrs. Blackwood, my interior design teacher asks when the bell rings.

I give her a kind smile and stay in my seat as I watch everyone else leave the classroom.

My interior design class would have to be my all time favorite class in school. Considering since that's what I want to do when I'm older. I've always been fascinated with design and was told by her and others that I have good taste. Once, everyone has left, I walk up to her desk with my bag in hand.

"Yes, Mrs. Blackwood?"

My teacher looks up from her computer and gives me a smile and gestures for me go come over to her side.

"Nina, your designs are absolutely incredible. The details and descriptions for each little thing is something that I haven't seen from a student in years!"

I bite the inside of my cheek to hide my smile. I'm not use to people complimenting me on my work, so hearing those words from her really makes me feel very happy and accomplished.

"Thank you so much. I've spent nearly two weeks on this project but wasn't sure if it was good enough to turn in." I tell her honestly. I have been so busy with dance and my other classes that I wasn't sure that I would be able to keep up with this class.

"Well," She shoots me another smile before turning her screen to show me what she's looking at. "you got the best grade in the class with the project."

My eyes bulge out of my sockets and I lean closer to get a closer look at the grade.

"Holy shit!" I shriek but immediately go to cover my mouth after saying that.

Mrs. Blackwood laughs and runs a wrinkly hand on my arm. "So I take it that you like the grade?"

"Like it?! Oh my goodness, Mrs. Blackwood this is amazing!" My first project in this class and I got an A plus!

"Indeed it is. Have you ever thought about applying for the program in Manhattan?" She asks me with a raised brow.

I never really thought about it before this. I was in the class later year and heard some of the seniors talking about the program but never thought that I was capable of even applying for it.

It was my dream to attend that program for as long as I can remember and tried my hardest in all of my classes but never knew that I would be capable of actually being accepted.

She can probably see the look on my face because she continues, "You should really consider applying for it, Nina. You have great taste and an opportunity to actually get accepted. I have only had two students in my years of teaching who's had what it took to make it in that program and you, Nina, have what it takes."

I'm still smiling so big right now hearing all of this. This is so surreal for me and the thought that I could actually get accepted into this program is a dream come true.

"Here," Mrs. Blackwood takes out a sheet of paper from her desk and hands it to me. It's an application for the Grey's Interior Design Program in Manhattan. "Take this and fill it out. Bring it to me by the end of the month and I'll even write you a kick ass recommendation letter for it."
