Stars

Your presence opened my eyes.

Even in the bright daylight,

I could see the stars.

Shining above, scattered across the sky.

At night, they twinkled brighter than ever,

During the day, they twinkled brighter than ever.

In your presence, I saw their beauty.

Inside and out.

They were always there.

My love for you was always there.

But you had to go off and close my eyes.

Now I cannot see any stars, whether day or night.

Maybe you closed them because I would see

Too much pain.

Maybe you closed them just to blind me

In your shadows.

It was only then that I realized when you left,

The light left.

The stars left.

You were the stars that illuminated my world.

Did you have to go away?

Now I am blindly exploring darkness,

Falling, tripping, over what I don't see.

I loved you. You were my light.

A light disguised in darkness.
