Betrayal

24 5 6

It's a big word,

It's what we all avoid in relations,

It's what tears us apart

When it falls hard like a rock on your shoulders.

The realization is so sudden,

The realization sinks in to the bottom

Of your shattered heart,

It sinks and sinks until it breaks.

I think it's fair to say that you betrayed me,

With your wicked lies in a wretched disguise.

Don't say you're sorry or you will be,

I've had enough of being crushed by a fake heart.

Enjoy your youth they say.

Don't dwell on what is done and gone,

Don't make a mess of what isn't and rest,

Don't sob on your sobs until your happiness is robbed.

There'll be plenty of hands to hold,

But then there was only one that was made of gold.

There'll be plenty of hearts to love,

But then there was only one that soared upon my soul like a dove.

Now it's turned over.

Because there's only one hand

To hold a knife to my throat,

Because there's only one heart

To beat mine until it collapses.

And they're yours.

It's a bitter truth to swallow,

And I guess I'll never really digest it.

Maybe one day I will,

But I'm scared it's a wound to never be healed.

You have no idea of the pain

That runs through my veins,

Nor of the hurt

That beats in my heart.

But now I've come to a better realization.

That I will never regret this.

Not only have you betrayed me,

But you have betrayed yourself.

I bet when you look in the mirror,

You see the cruelty in each of your acts

And you wonder what happened to the old you.

The you who was kind and always there.

And if you don't see it,

Then there'll be only one thought to think,

Only one message to remember:

You were never worth it.
