Spring was approaching, and Eren's will to live was gone. Every now and then, his personalities would switch. Eren's Levi personality had a new trigger — Rin. Eren's nurse had this claim on him, and whenever he exerted his power, Levi came out.
"Eren, get away from the window or you'll lose the privilege." Rin commanded, straightening Eren's bed.
Eren switched, and his posture grew. "Shut it, swine."
"Hi, Levi. I'm still here." Rin taunted. "And you're still under lock down."
Eren was transported to a high security facility for the criminally insane. He had his own room — well, cell — and Rin was the only nurse brave enough to care for him.
The Levi in Eren wanted to tear him to shreds, but Rin always threatened electrotherapy. If Eren went through it, it could reset him, making him the humane teen he once was.
Rin watched Eren move away from the window and plop down in a dark corner. He disassociated before returning back to his normal self.
"Where's Levi?" He whined silently.
Rin snickered, "Eren, he left you, remember?"
"I can't remember much."
Eren's memory had been dulled from being stuck in a white room with nothing but Rin and a window to connect him to the world. The only reason he remembered Levi was the name scarred along his chest and arms, like Levi was a part of him.
Slowly, Rin began to change the boy's mind. "Eren, he left you because you went mad. He hurt you." The nurse stooped down to the boy. "I chose to help you, Eren."
"Yeah, you did." Eren nodded. "Can I go outside today?"
Rin paused. "Only if you promise to never speak of Levi again."
Eren looked down and sighed, "I promise."
Rin was pleased with the response and held out a hand. "Let's go then."
Eren took the nurses hand and stood up. They went through dozens of locked doors and security gates before they reached the yard where patients went to relax. Eren was hardly ever there. He was the most aggressive patient at the asylum prison.
Every insane criminal there had high respect for him. Not because he was sworn to Levi, but because he had the record of killing over eleven staff members with just his teeth and bare hands. It was only when Levi's personality snuck out to stretch.
"He can't be out here without a mask." A security guard informed, handing a mask to Rin.
Eren hated that thing. It prevented him from biting or attacking staff and other patients. Plus, it was highly uncomfortable.
Rin gestured for Eren closer, but the boy whined, "I promise, I won't bite! I hate that thing. I can't breathe in it."
"Eren, that's what you said last time." Rin huffed. "And nurse Rachel is still in intensive care."
"She's dead, Rin." The security guard corrected. "Stopped breathing last night."
The patients around the yard buzzed with laughter and applause. Eren rolled his eyes at them. He was honestly becoming desensitized to the words death, murder, and psycho. They were all he heard nowadays.
Rin hushed them before ordering, "Eren, you're gonna put the mask on, or we are marching straight back to your cell!"
The patients in the yard watch Eren with smiles, expecting him to attack; however, he remained calm and fought Levi back. He gave in and put the bite mask on.
