He went to school straight away. He was really worried. Why did Xiao react like that?

More importantly—why was Venti so worried about a guy of all things?

Well—how could he not be worried? Those bruises looked new. Fresh. Not to mention how much there were. If there was that many on his shoulders, how many were there on the rest of his body?

Very didn't really want to know. But you can't blame him for being curious about it. You would too if you seen that on your classmates shoulder, would you not?

Especially since Venti couldn't help but to be curious of..just about everything.

But that's besides the matter, it was still none of his business. He shouldn't ask about it.

-

Class was about to start. People were chatting but..no sign of Xiao. Maybe he was just late..

If it was about yesterday, Venti would definitely feel guilty for it.

(A/N; fun fact, I just spilt milk all over my face on accident)

Venti frowned as he stared at the empty desk of Xiao. Then, he felt something on his shoulder.

Turning around, it was his best friend. Childe. "What do you want..?"

Childe kept his usual smile on his face,"Why're you so upset? Did you and Xiao get in to another fight?"

Venti sighed. "No..exact opposite. I just don't know why he isn't here today."

Childe's smile began to fade a bit, but upon realizing, he seemed to keep the same smile again. "Right..maybe you just..like him. That thing about Xiao being gay still could be true!"

"No way! I would never.." Venti pouted his bottom lip out. Childe was always joking like this. In fact, their whole friend group was full of idiots that made those kinds of jokes. So, Venti was pretty used to it.

But there's been a lot of jokes about Xiao lately..especially from Childe. Is it possible that Childe doesn't like Xiao?

Hah, who is he kidding? Of course not. Childe would've been insulting him by now if he didn't like the other.

"I'm just..worried. Yesterday we were getting ice cream together and—"

Venti was cut off. "Wh-WHA?? I mean—huh? You always refuse everyone else that asks to hang out with you like that!" He began teasing, despite the overlooked nervous expression.

"I know..but I was the one who asked him this time." Venti huffed.

Bennett scooted his chair over,"I couldn't help but to overhear the conversation!" He smirked,"Does Venti have a crush? Who did you ask to have ice cream with you?! I feel like you'd only do that with the girl you like—"

Venti looked at Bennett,"It's not even a girl, so be quiet!"

Bennett stayed silent for a second,"Then...are you gay?"

"Of course not!"

Childe only let out a small laugh.

Venti sighed,"I just kinda feel bad for treating him..." he hesitated,"rudely..." the last part was mumbled under his breath. His friends heard it, of course. But would they act like they heard it? Of course not!

Bennett smirked,"What was that..? Didn't quite catch the last part..!"

Venti scowled,"Rudely!" He said through his gritted teeth.

Bennett just silently smiled,"Right..but why? What made you stop hating him? Don't you hold grudges..for like..ever?"

Venti stayed silent for a moment "I made him cry." Venti frowned thinking about it.

Bennett let out an exaggerated gasp,"Seriouslyyy?"

Childe paused,"So, you don't actually care for him,..you just feel guilty."

Venti's eyes widened, but before he could respond, the bell rang.

He looked back over to Xiao's seat to see if he had came in. But he still wasn't there.

Bennett quickly sat back down in his own seat.

And Xiao wasn't there for the entire day.

-

Venti and Childe were walking home together, in what felt like forever. But this time, there was only silence. Venti was too lost in thought to speak.

'Didn't actually care for him'..? No way! Venti cared for Xiao—otherwise he wouldn't be feeling like this!

But guilt—guilt for what he did himself.

Venti stopped in his tracks,"Oh my god! Childe, you're right! I have to go, sorry!" And with that, Venti ran off.

Childe didn't have to think twice to know where the other boy was going. He knew exactly what Venti was running for. Or, who Venti was running for.

And that person was non other than Xiao.

-

Venti's thoughts were racing as he ran, he wasn't much of a runner;but he just started without thinking. He felt kind of bad for leaving Childe without another word..but he's sure Childe would understand. After all, Childe was an understanding guy when it came to things like this.

Or at least, Venti thought that way.

Finally, Venti reached Xiao's house. He quickly knocked on the door. Maybe a little bit too persistently.

After a bit, there was a muffled yell. All that Venti could make out was 'answer', 'door' and 'my friends' from a feminine voice. Venti can guess that that was Xiao's mother.

Luckily he wouldn't have to be invited in by that woman again..as nice as she was, she gave off this weird vibe.

The door opened, and Venti stood shocked.

"Mhh..who is—" Xiao got cut off as he opened his eyes and noticed the figure.

Xiao's cheek had a red mark on it. It almost looked like the shape of a..handprint..?

Venti finally had some hesitated courage to speak up. "You—your face.."

Xiao seemed absolutely panicked. He quickly placed a hand to cover his cheek, looking embarrassed. "It's nothing, I just slept on my side and it left a print... What do you want?"

That didn't..look just a 'print'. Venti didn't just see things, right? That was a hand. Never mind..he shouldn't be suspecting Xiao of lying.

"Can we..talk for a second?"
