Ultron Aftermath

Chapter 1

Place:Avengers compound
Time:Way past Steve's bedtime

After arriving home from the battle the avengers got cleaned up, everyone else had tended to there wounds and cleared off home,Thor went back to Asgard and took Banner along with him,Clint went back to his wife and Kids,and Tony went back to his place with pepper leaving Natasha and Steve at the compound with the two girls.

Steve and Nat were used to it being just them at the compound given they were the only ones that lived there full time but they were kinda hoping Clint would stay a bit longer as he had already seemed to have formed some sort of bond with Wanda and Aj (they definitely trusted the man the most out of the avengers) but He had his own Children and wife to get back too.

Natasha herself had been totally unharmed in battle but she was concerned about the girls so took them downstairs to Medbay just to be checked over by doctor cho.
Doctor Cho was observing Steve's injuries so had told them to wait until she was ready.

Upon arrival in the hospitals and Lab wing,Natasha could see the visible panic on the girls faces,both had grown pale and their eyes flickered around the room restlessly.

"It's okay Girls. No one's gonna hurt you,
let's sit here"

Natasha comforted the girls as she lead them over to some chairs outside Helen Cho's lab.
Neither of the two girls had believed her when she said "no one's gonna hurt you" they knew better then to trust someone that easily.

"What's going to happen to us? Where are we supposed to go?"

Natasha turned around to see the teenagers eyes glazed with tears.

"Well you guys have two choices,and it's completely up to you guys.You can stay here with me,us three could stick together. Be a team,I could even teach you both how to control your powers so you wouldn't have to worry about loosing control and hurting anyone or you can go into the foster system.I don't know much about that but for two enhanced kids I can imagine it won't be easy"

"You want us to stay here? Even after I went into your head?,I hurt you" By this point the tears had fallen. The 14 year old was balling her eyes out clearly overwhelmed with everything and unable to hold it all in anymore.

Natasha put a comforting hand to the girls shoulder but Wanda shrugged her off.

"Don't touch me,you can't! I don't wanna hurt you. I'm a bad person I can't stay here"

"Wanda you won't hurt me.you could never hurt me" Natasha took a deep breathe.

she put her hand back to Wanda's shoulder,the girl tensed but didn't shrug her off this time

"and you are certainly not a bad person.It might take some time for you to understand that but I'm here to help you. You deserve a chance to have a family and be happy like normal kids.you both do"

"We're not normal kids"

"And? Look around Nobody here is normal.
I know I don't know you guys well,but this is where you belong. And Steve and I are gonna look after you both"

Wanda was unsure as to why but for some reason she wanted to stay with Natasha.
The other girl however hadn't heard any of the conversation that had just happened between Wanda and Natasha despite being sat right next to them. The 9 year old was too busy being unable to move because of the pure horror she was witnessing as she watched the woman in the lab coat through the window,the lady was poking needles into the man who seemed to be in some discomfort.

The 9 year old tapped Wanda's shoulder in a panic,getting the older girl's attention.
Wanda raised her eyebrows at AJ who just pointed towards the window.

"No I don't think she's hurting him"

Wanda told Aj answering the question the girl had asked without communicating with words. Wanda could read minds so it wasn't exactly difficult for her to have a conversation with AJ who chose not to communicate verbally most of the time.

Natasha picked up on the girls worry and decided this would be the perfect time to try and earn their trust slightly.

"She's helping him,
look come with me"

Inside the lab,Natasha had kindly asked Dr cho to take her lab coat off so she looked like a regular person. This bought the girls a little comfort but not much.

"And now I have to Stitch
Steve's Chin because he's got a deep cut"

Cho finished the explanation of what she was doing.
Both girls examined the situation closely although it didn't look pleasant,what Cho was doing seemed to make the cut on Steve's face shrink.

"See girls you don't have to worry. Just like she's helping Steve Dr cho will help you,she won't hurt you I promise"

"No I won't hurt you I promise,it might sting a tiny bit when I clean out or stitch your cuts but it will make them better. Steve here is just a big baby" the Dr told the girls as she opened a packet of antiseptic wipes.

"I'm not a baby"

The man protested however was soon proved wrong when Cho wiped over one of his cuts,the super soldier immediately let out a high pitched

"OWWW"

This earned small giggles from both girls.
Natasha breathed a sigh of relief upon the sound of the laughter coming from the girls, which reminded her that, despite the events they had faced in life, they were still children who deserved every bit of joy that they could experience. Like Natasha herself, the girls had had their childhood stolen from them, but she desired to alter that course for them, she wanted them to experience the simple and pure joys of life as opposed to being under the control of evil individuals, stripped of their humanity and utilized for personal gain.

Steve smirked proudly to himself,he had been the first one to make these two scared, fragile kids laugh. It wasn't much but knowing he'd made them just a little bit more comfortable in this lab which was unnerving territory for the pair was enough to bring him satisfaction. He was going to help these kids.

Wanda's laugh died down however Aj seemed to be having a giggling fit.

"You know what kid you're luck
you have a Cute laugh"
Steve playfully warned Aj.

"It's not my fault you're a pussy"
the 9 year old sassed back
through laughter.

This seemed to be a rather humorous and unexpected response to the man, leaving him quite amused. It appeared that AJ had a rather good read on Steve, which led her to the conclusion that he would not likely be offended by this jab at him. Hence why she felt like she could say it. He indeed seemed to find this entire situation rather amusing, given his loud laugh to the girls cheeky reply.

Natasha also burst out into laughter, she couldn't believe it.The first sentence she'd heard this kid say and it was violating Steve,Natasha had a feeling that once she was out of her shell,Aj and Nat were going to get along very well.
