Chapter 8

Time:for Steve to have a bottle of wine
Place:the couch

Steve was enjoying the taste of his second glass of wine in a 15-minute timeframe (Wine wouldn't get the man drunk or even tipsy because of his super soldier serum yet for some reason he still tried his luck). He was clearly under stress, as he seemingly struggled to process the events that had unfolded in his house just moments prior between Aj and Bucky.

Wanda had just finished assisting Natasha in tidying up the kitchen, and had just entered the living space, where Steve was. Upon seeing his agitated and distressed demeanor, she couldn't help but let out a small sigh, as she observed him and took note of the obvious signs of tension. He seemed like he could use some form of comfort and reassurance.

She sat beside him.

The small dip from the spot on the couch beside him caught his attention. Steve looked over to Wanda and gave her a weak smile.

"Hey Kiddo,
you alright?"

"Im fine. You however seem stress" Wanda stated and the man shrugged, "don't stress. Aj loves Bucky a lot they'll make up"

"I hope so wands"

Steve wasn't worried about whether the pair would make up or not, he didn't care too much. His biggest concern was AJ's panic attack even Tony's never got that bad, the last 3 days he'd seen the 9 year old cry but this time it was different she was so upset but so angry too. That was the first time he'd seen her get mad like that and he couldn't help her.

Just as the girls were starting to open up and settle in a spanner gets thrown into the works-Steve couldn't help but blame himself for this one.

"You know I didn't even know
Aj was Ava Jay she's never told me"

Wanda told Steve changing the subject a little. When Bucky had used the girls full name It had taken Wanda by surprise.

"You'll have to ask
her about it later"

"Oh I will"

The strong smell of paint lingered in the air as the pair sat at the end of AJ's bed in silence.

Buckys eyes scanned the newly decorated room,the walls had been painted a fresh coat of light blue and sheets were temporarily hung around the room and placed down on the floor to prevent the paint getting elsewhere ,the corner of the room was being used as storage space for unboxed furniture and decor. Let's just say AJ's bedroom was a working progress but Steve and Tony promised the girl it would be done by tomorrow evening. And they were going to do everything they could to meet their deadline.

"I really am sorry I left you. It was wrong of me I know but you have to understand I was going insane if I had stayed I would have become the winter soldier completely. I wouldn't have ever been me again"

Bucky told Aj his voice came out as an almost plea for forgiveness. He knew she was a smart kid but he was aware she couldn't fully comprehend the danger she would have been in if Buck had stayed, he didn't expect her to understand she's still only young.

"I know you had to go but that doesn't mean it didn't hurt. After you left so much happened. I needed you"

Aj understood his situation and why he had to go,more than he thought she did. However she just wished he had risked it and taken her with him. Things would have been very different.
