Annabelle

"So this is what you meant by what ever happens next in life huh" I said to David walking into his house a week later. Everyone bar Jake and I had headed back to college
"Annie listen" He said sitting on the bottom step patting it next to him
"Regardless on where I live, where you live, regardless on anything. I'll always be a call away" he said

"This place just reminds me of-" He started before I nodded
"It reminds you of Dad" I said making him sigh and nod
"I love James like he was my own Dad, but I think this is for the best for all of us" He continued

"Now when you come and visit, you won't be scared to go into a room" he said making me nod
I looked around at the house, it was completely bare here
"Do you remember how many memories we've had on this stair case alone?" He asked nudging me making me laugh

"Remember that one time you mum was meant to be babysitting me and she fell asleep on the sofa?" I asked and he chuckled
"So you squirt decided to bother myself" He said making me nod

"Hey that was the start of upside down apple sauce" I said making him chuckle
"the amount of apple sauce you wasted and got in your hear must have been a world record" he laughed

"This isn't the end is it?" I asked looking at David who smiled shaking his head
"No Annie, it isn't" He said placing his hand on my knee
"it's not the end, it's just the beginning of a new chapter" He smiled

I looked around again and it was crazy to think about everything that has happened in these four walls in the last 9 years. When David and his family moved in, I had no idea his role in my life would be this big, this important

David and I walked the last box out to his car, I knew today was happening, he'd told me about moving before the funeral but it's surreal that the day is already here

"So this is it huh?" I sighed putting my hands in my pockets
"Do you remember the last time we said goodbye like this?" I asked
"when we sent you off to college?" He asked but I shook my head
"my goodbye then was a lot more relaxed. When was the last time we both cried about a goodbye. Whether you admit you cried or not" I teased

"When I went to college" He chuckled making me nod
"we were both a mess" I said making him laugh
"Can you blame us? We'd spent every waking minute together all summer for no other reason then we knew the goodbye was coming" he explained making me chuckle

"How about another summer like that sometime?" I offered making him smile
"I'll hold you up on that squirt" he chuckled pulling me into a tight hug

After a little while of talking and saying goodbye to myself and Jake. David got into his car giving us one more final wave before driving off
"Are you okay?" Jake asked wrapping his arms around me, I turned to him and smiled with a nod

"You know what" I said making him raise a brow at me with a curious smile on his face
"I am" I smiled making Jake smile too

This wasn't goodbye to David, this wasn't a goodbye at all
It was a see you later

Jake and I slowly walked back into the house to grab our suitcases before pilling them into my car.
"You ready to go?" He asked as I stood on the drive looking at both houses

This time a month ago, David house, housed two people while mine remained semi vacant and now it's reversed. David's is up for sell waiting for the next family who will make just as many memories in there

This isn't the end of the story, this is just the beginning of another

"Yeah I am" I smiled placing a kiss on his lips before we both climbed into the car
