Bastet was the goddess of protection and pleasure, she always hid in the shadows, watching over the people of the world behind closed doors, protecting them from the monsters under the bed.
In early mythology, she was depicted as a lioness but as time went on, she pictures as more as a house cat. Like how in sculptures of her, she is normally surrounded by a litter of kittens because of her motherly protective tendencies.
She was the daughter of Ra, sister of Sekhmet, and wife of Khonshu.

Her avatar received some of these traits, taking a small slice of the goddess's powers when in form.
Her avatar, whoever that might be, would have abilities like passing through shadows, heighten senses (mostly hearing), the power to conjure small weapons outside of Bastet's ceremonial outfit, night vision and agility. And that's only to name a few.
Cats might also be more attracted to her and may be able to understand her to a certain extent but that theory has never been tested.
With other avatars and their deities, only they can see their own and no one else's, but if the two deities are bonded in holy matrimony, their avatars can see the other and vice versa.
