"Do not take revenge."

•••

This a hard challenge for us, writers, how to deal with hurt or offense from fellow writers. Our natural defense mechanism as a human is to strike back against the ones who caused us pain; to show that we are braver than them, that we could not be defeated. It really takes courage and down-to-earthness to overcome this kind of attitude. However, to tell you, it is a gratifying feeling to let go of our grudge and resentment, to forgive and to pray for the good of those who offended us. The Apostle Paul reminded us, "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," says the Lord."

Do not avenge with the writers who had trespassed against you, intentionally or not; rather surrender it all to God. This is a challenge that we can do only by His grace.
