Bombarded with a lot of messages from Lux, I eagerly stopped sewing a detail on a gown and grabbed my phone to check it.

“Bakit?”

“I have to go back to New York as soon as possible, sissy! There’s an emergency. I’m already packing my things. Can you send me to the airport?”

I also noticed the eagerness in his voice so I nodded as if he saw it. “Sure! I’ll be there in twenty minutes.”

Cai already took his car from me.

I sighed. I looked at Jil who’s currently busy sewing. Tumayo ako at lumapit sa kaniya.

“Jil.”

“Yes, sis?”

“Can I borrow your car? May kailangan lang akong ihatid sa airport. Papakargahan ko na lang ng gas.”

“Sure.

I dialed Lux’s number and he answered right away.

“I’m on my way. Are you done?”

“Yes, sis! I’ll wait for you outside.”

“Hop in!” I shouted after I rolled down the car window.

He immediately put his baggage on the back and walked to the front to sit on the shotgun seat.

“What’s the emergency?” I asked.

I started to drove away; fast but not full speed. Ayaw ko pa namang mamatay.

“My mom slipped in the bathroom. She was sent to the hospital. They haven’t informed me what her condition is right now,” he answered nervously.

“I hope she’s fine,” I uttered sincerely.

I have met his mom a lot of times and we became close. I was always in their house whenever we had some projects.

She’s really kind so I hope that she’s fine now.

“I hope so, too.” Lux made a sign of the cross. I know by now that he’s praying.

“Thank you, sis! When everything is fine, I’ll come back here,” he said while rushing in.

“That can wait, Lux. For now, go to your mom and my regards to her.” We stopped. I hugged him tightly. “Take care. Text me when you have already landed. I’ll pray for your mom.”

“Thank you, thank you!” He waved his hand when he started to walk away.
