Her Return

Chapter 11

Adriana's POV

I'm finally trying on dresses for my quince. My Italian family is here and so is Haruhi. We're in the fourth store since no one liked the selections at the previous three.

"This would be easier if you didn't choose black as your dress color. Tasha why would you agree to something like that?" Nonna asked

"Trust me I tried to convince her otherwise but since it's her party. She can decide what she wants." Granny responded

"What is your court going to wear?"

"Red suits." I answer

"Even the women?" Zia asked

"I don't have any women in my court."

"I thought Maddie and Riley were going to be in your court."

"I changed my mind." I shrugged

"That's not fair to the girls. You can't go back on your word like that." Charlotte scolded me

"It's my party so I can do as I please. I also never guaranteed them a place in my court. I decided the day I called you. Maddie isn't even invited."

"Did you guys fall out?" Riley asked

"No, but she's a civilian. I'm not going to risk her safety by bringing her to my party."

"JJ try on this one." Haru suggests

"Cool it has a cape!"

"Go in the fitting room while the consultant brings in more dresses for you." Nonna tells me

Haru came inside to help me put on the dress.

"I'm shitting bricks." She tells me

"Why?"

"What if I leave a bad impression on your family?" She asks

"Who cares?"

"Matteo and I have been dating for 6 months and they're trying to force him into an arrangement marriage. I need them to like me. He wants to tell them during their stay here." She explains

"Ohhhh. That makes sense. My advice to you is to be yourself. You're well mannered, funny, talented, intelligent, and supportive. Leave a lasting impression by being yourself not someone you think they'll like. If they end up disliking you that's their loss."

"Matteo is the only one who doesn't rebel against your family. He does exactly what they tell him to do. He's the golden child. If they don't like me I'm scared he'll break up with me to appease them." She confesses

"If he does that I'll raise hell. Matteo is a big boy and he likes you enough to have a secret relationship. Just trust in him and yourself. I'm sure it'll work out for you."

She helped me put on the cape which rested on my shoulder then I walked out.

"That's really pretty on you."

"The red one is prettier and it'll make your skin pop more."

"Well my dress is gonna be black so live with it." I snapped

"Adriana." Granny warned

One of our men went and whispered something in granny's ear which made her face light up.

"So they have a dress that hasn't been put on the floor due to its uniqueness and it's price. It's in black and has a hood. They're willing to let you try it but we can't take pictures unless we buy it."

"I'll try it on."

"We have to go in the back that's where the more expensive dresses are."

As we entered the back area I was in awe. The price tag on some of these dresses were the cost of my party.
