Today was the day of the dance

Today was the day of the dance. I have spent the last two hours getting ready. I'm wearing a satin white dress with heels and my hair is in a low bun. As I finish putting on my heel, I hear a knock on the front door.

"Hey, Issac," I hear Rose greet him. I open the door to my room and step out. Rose was sick and couldn't go to the dance and Nora was already there because she will be helping around.

Issac looks over at me, he is dressed in a tux. I try to give him the best fake smile I can. He smiles back before walking to me. "You look amazing, ready to go?" He asks me as he holds his hand out. I hesitate before taking it.

I push away the thought as I say a quick goodbye to Rose. I tell her where the medicine is and to me or Nora if anything. She nods and tells me she knows before she pushes me out the door.

The car ride was silent and a little awkward. He played music but it wasn't good music. I tap my hand against my thigh from my nervousness.

He doesn't open my door, I open it and step out when we arrive. He grabs my hand into his as we walk in. This was a bad idea, is the only thing I think. I look around for Nora but don't see her.

Every time I try to escape to Nora or anywhere, he pulls me into a conversation with someone. After about two and a half hours, I go to the bathroom.

As I wash my hands my phone rings, why was Leo calling me at almost 10:00 at night? I dry my hands before I pick up the phone.

"Hello?" I say into the phone.

"River," Is all Leo says his voice frantic, and worry laces his voice. Panic starts to shoot through my body.

"Leo, what's wrong?" I ask as my body goes on alert. He doesn't answer right away but I can hear Greyson talking through the phone.

"Noah needs you. He won't let us into his room. River, please he won't talk to us," Greyson says frantically through the phone. Before he can even finish speaking I'm on my way out of the bathroom.

"I'll be there in less than 10," I say before hanging up, I run to Nora, and she looks at me with worry.

"Do you have your car?" I ask her in a hurried tone.

"Yeah, why? What's wrong?" She asks me.

"Noah needs me, can I take your car?" She nods her head and hands me the keys. As I'm about to walk out the door, Issac stops me.

"Where are you going?" He asks me as he puts an arm around my waist.

"I need to go," I say but he doesn't let me go. I elbow him in his ribcage. Hard. He pulls back in pain but I don't pay attention to him as I run out of the building.

I forget all about the heels I'm wearing and I run to Nora's car and start it. I made it to the guy's house in record time. I don't knock before I open the door. I sprint into the living room.

Leo, Roman, and Greyson sit there with worried expressions. They jot up when they see me. "Where is he?" I ask them.

"His room, he doesn't want us near him," Roman says. I make my way up the stairs and walk to his room. I take a deep breath and open the door.

I find Noah sitting down on the floor next to his bed. He cries as his head is tilted up and his arms are folded on top of his knees. My heart breaks at the scene. He looks so broken.

I walk over to him and take a seat next to him. He lifts his head and looks at me. He opens his mouth to tell me to leave but I pull his head down onto my shoulder.

I wrap my arms around his body, his sobs become louder as I hold him to me like I was shielding him from the world. "I got you, baby. I got you," I whisper to him as I place a kiss on his temple. When his sobs become sniffles, I finally ask him what happened.

"What happened?" I ask as I run my hands through his hair. His body stiffens for a second before he relaxes back into me.

"Dad called....h-he said that mom didn't make it. Her treatments had stopped working." He whispers to me, his voice rough and quavering. I feel a tear fall onto my skin. His mom had been in the hospital the last few days because the cancer in her breast had gotten worse.

"Why are you here?" He then asks me as he takes his head off my shoulder. His eyes were swollen and he looked pale.

"You needed me," I tell him honestly as I reach my hand up to move a strand of his hair out of his face. I see his eyes look down at my white satin dress and heels.

"But you had the dance," He tells me quietly. I pull off my heels before standing up. He watches me as I grab some clothes from his closet.

I pull off the dress in front of him and put some sweatpants and a white t-shirt of his. I turn back to him and see him staring at me. He gets up and walks over to me and wraps his arms around me and nuzzles his head into my neck.

"I would skip any dance, if you needed me," I say to him as I thread my fingers through his hair. He tightens his hold on me and pulls me closer. I wrap my arms around his neck.

"I think the guys would like to make sure you're okay," I tell him as I pull back. As if on cue, there is a knock on the door. Leo pops his head in, and Greyson and Roman follow soon after. They let out a sigh of relief when they see Noah.

"You guys can come in," I tell them and they open the door fully and walk-in. I make an excuse that I'm going to go grab some tea for Noah so that they can talk. As I make him tea, I hear some sniffling coming from Noah's room.

When I open the door to his room I see them hugging. I put the tea on the nightstand before walking back to them. "You guys want to sleep in here tonight?" I ask them. I figure that it can bring comfort to them knowing that they are all together.

They nod and they go to grab some pillows and blankets. I fill up the air mattress they have for the three of them to sleep on. As we get into bed, I put on a movie for them to fall asleep to.

Noah and I lay in his bed. His head lays on top of my chest as I slide one hand up and down his back and the other one I thread in his hair. As the guys start to fall asleep. I whisper something to Noah.

"It will take a long time to get there but you will be okay," I whisper softly to him. He nods and wipes whatever tears have fallen. I've fallen hard for this boy and I'll do anything to make sure he will be okay.
