The next noon it was finally time. It had taken all day and all night yesterday, but now they had done it. A hopefully working time machine in Lang's car.

"Circuit breakers ready," Steve declared, glancing at the transformers. He took a few more steps to check other equipment. "Emergency generators on standby." Bruce nodded curtly and stepped behind the control unit of what was essentially a time machine. If it worked, Natasha looked at the complicated machine with a tablet computer in her hand, keeping track of output levels. Then Bruce motioned to Scott to put on his helmet. Scott complied with the request and made
a few more adjustments to the air supply. Nervously, Abigail played with her red pearl bracelet; everything depended on this experiment. She had not yet informed Pietro. The disappointment would be too great if her attempt failed.

"If we're going to scrap the power grid, I don't want the peck here to be not lose it in the fifties." Scott stopped, helmet in hand, as if frozen in place
standing still. "Excuse me?" He could only hope that had been a joke. Given the adverse circumstances, they had to stick together after all.
Natasha continued to type away on the tablet, but gave Bruce a look that told him to stop. "Just kidding," she assured Scott. "Yes!" half-heartedly confirmed Bruce. "Don't say that," Natasha said quietly to
Bruce. Then she laughed to distract from her conversation with Bruce, hoping Scott didn't notice. Lang nodded, though wasn't really convinced. Still, he turned his attention to the van; this couldn't go wrong, so it required the utmost concentration. Natasha whispered to Bruce, "I was kidding, right?"

"I don't know," Bruce murmured back. "We're talking about time travel here. Either this is all a hoax or none of it is." They could all only hope for the best. Bruce straightened up and stuck a thumb in the air. Scott was still rattled, but knew he had no choice at all. He had to do this
go through with it now. So much depended on it working. He stood behind Hank's van and put on the Ant-Man helmet.
"Scott, I'm sending you back a week," Bruce declared. "Let you run around for an hour, and after ten seconds I'll bring you back. Got it?" Scott waved it off, trying for nonchalance,
but he knew it wouldn't come across convincingly. "Hardly disturbs me at all," he assured the others. The quantum tunnel in the van was now active and waiting for its intrepid explorers.

"Good luck, Scott. You can do it." Steve always managed to
easily infect others with his confidence as only a living legend could. As he grew smaller, Scott exclaimed, "You're right. I will, Captain America! " With that, Scott disappeared into the quantum tunnel. The seconds ticked by until Bruce began the countdown, causing Abigail to become anxious. "I'm counting down from three. Three ... two ... one." At that moment, he was flipping levers with his much-too-big hands and pushing buttons at the same time. Steve wondered briefly if Bruce might inadvertently destroy something as a result. Suddenly, Scott was back at the entrance to the quantum tunnel. Natasha's jaw dropped, while Abigail's eyes widened.
