VIII. A Lie and Feelings Realized

Our school's having one of it's university open day today, where we invited prospective students to our campus to take a look around, kaya naman medyo abala ang lahat, especially professors.

May mga prospective students din kasi na nakiki-seat in sa mga lectures, at isa ang klase ni Miss Mendez sa mga dinumog.

I don't know if they were truely interested with the subject, or curious lang sila sa magandang professor.

Either way, naiirita ako sa mga prospective students na tanong ng tanong sa kanya tapos karamihan ay mga lalaki pa.

I rolled my eyes for the nth time ng magtaas ng kamay ang katabi ko na isa sa mga naki- seat in, then asked a question na naitanong na rin naman kanina kung totoong nakikinig lang siya. Miss Mendez though, acted as professional as ever, patiently answering questions, and trying to engage the prospectives to interact with the class.

I heaved a sigh of relief when the class finally ended. I can't take any more of the guys being a little too interested with my Professor. Nagpaiwan muna ako at pinauna na sina Kenny and Eli sa cafeteria. I just needed to talk to Miss Mendez quickly.

Nang kami na lang ang natira sa loob ay naglakad na ako palapit sa mesa niya at tinulungan siyang ayusin ang mga gamit niya. Bahagya pa itong nagulat ng makita ako.

"What are you still doing here?" She asked, while gathering her things.

"Are you up for a lunch out?" I asked her instead, completely ignoring her question.

Kinuha niya ang ibang mga gamit niya saka inabot sa akin 'yong laptop bag niya. Kinuha ko naman ito saka sabay na kaming naglakad palabas ng classroom.

"I can't. Ang dami ko pang kailangan gawin." Sagot niya habang naglalakad kami papunta ng faculty.

"Fine. But, will you be able to watch later?" I asked again. We were tasked to play at the school grounds later this afternoon where the university also prepared a small event for the prospective students.

"Hmm.. I'll try." Tipid na sagot nito na tinanguan ko lang, as I try to hide my disappointment.

Nagpaalam na rin ako ng maihatid ko siya sa faculty saka dumitetso na sa cafeteria.

I found Eli and Kenny at our usual spot. They're seated with three other girls, probably some of the prospectives.

Nang makalapit ay saka ko lang namukhaan 'yong isa.

"Hi, Kimmy. Didn't know you'd be be here, too." Bati ko dito. Isang tipid na tango at nahihiyang ngiti lang ang sagot niya.

"Heto na pala 'yong hinihintay niyo, girls." Eli said, smiling evilly at me. I know that look too well.

Why do I suddenly have a bad feeling about this?

"So, Quinn, we found out that these young ladies personally requested you to give them the grand tour around the university." Sabi ni Kenny tapos kumindat pa na parang nang-aasar.

"What? Bakit ako? Kayo na lang dalawa." I protested.

"Nonesense. Ikaw nga ang personal na ni-request 'di ba? Besides, tatanggihan mo ba 'yang mga fans mo at apo ng school founder?" Kenny said, her tone sarcastic.

What the hell?

Napakamot ako sa batok habang tinitingnan 'yong tatlong babaeng tahimik lang na nakikinig sa amin. All of them, looking hopeful at me.

Damn it!

Nang hindi na ako nakasagot ay tumayo na 'yong dalawa.

"So, 'pano? We'll be on our way na so you guys can start with the grand tour." Sabi ni Eli na nakangisi pa rin.
