XXXI. Accident

I'm on my way to Greg's family mansion. Doon kasi gaganapin ang 5th birthday ng pamangkin niya. The reason why I was in that novelty shop in the first place. Favorite niya kasi si Stitch, so, I went there to buy her a gift. And, to my great surprise, I saw Quinn walked into the shop. Hindi na ako nag sayang pa ng oras.

I've been looking for the perfect opportunity to talk to her, and, come clean. Hindi pa lang ako makahanap ng tyempo. At kanina nga, naniniwala akong tadhana na mismo ang gumawa ng paraan.

The look on her face when she saw me is so priceless. Quinn is a very transparent person. She wear her heart on her sleeve. And, I clearly saw the play of emotions in her eyes the moment she met my gaze. The surprise, the elation, the longing. Nakita ko kung paano niya ako hagurin ng tingin mula ulo hanggang paa bago dumako ang tingin nito sa aking mukha. Nakita ko kung paano niya pinagsawa ang mga mata sa pagtingin sa akin, at hinayaan ko lang siya. In fact, I did the same to her. I missed her so damn much that it's all I could do not to pull her in for a hug.

But, I need to hold myself back. Alam ko marami siyang katanungan at handa na akong sagutin lahat ng iyon. Hopefully, after this we can start again. Iyon ay kung handa pa siyang tanggapin ulit ako. I'm not even sure she's going to believe what I'm about to reveal to her. There's only one way to find out.

I saw the confusion in her eyes when she caught a glimpse of the promise ring that she gave me. I'm currently wearing on my left ring finger. Ibinalik ko na kasi 'yong engagement ring na ibinigay ni Greg sa akin. Now that the show's over, I don't see the need to wear it still. Besides, nakapagpaliwanag na rin naman kami sa family niya. I'm just truely greatful na napakabait ng mga magulang niya for understanding the whole situation. Ipinaubaya ko na rin sa kanila ang pamamahala ng accounting firm na naiwan ni Dad. Sa dami kasi ng utang niya ay kukulangin pa lahat ng pagbebentahan ng mga family assets mamin pambayad dito. In exchange, the Benitez agreed to help me pay for his debts, and that's good enough for me.

After a moment of hesitation, ay napapayag ko itong sumama sa akin para makapag-usap kami. Pinili ko na lang sa sasakyan ko. At least dito, nobody can see and interrupt us.

The first thing that came out of my mouth was to ask her about dating Kelsey Andrews. And, I had to hold my breath while waiting for her answer. Saka lang ako nakahinga ulit ng maluwag ng sinabi niyang magkaibigan lang sila. Although, she's right. Wala naman na dapat akong pakialam kahit sino pa ang i-date niya. Kahit sino basta huwag lang si Kelsey.

Not that psycho bitch.

And, then I watched her expression closely as I tell her that I'm no longer engaged to Greg. Nakita ko kung paano bahagyang nanlaki ang mga niya sa gulat, then I saw how hope slowly filled them. I had to hold back the smirk. She's just so damn precious, my Quinn.

Doon ko na sinimulan i-kwento ang mga nangyari. She was quiet the whole time, obviously absorbing every words I said. I told her how my father found out about us. How I was given two options, and, of course, Quinn being Quinn just could not understand why I did not asked her help.

Pero, mamamatay muna ako bago ko siya kaladkarin sa ganoong eskandalo. I can take all the brunt, basta huwag lang nilang idadamay si Quinn.

Kaya sobrang hirap man sa kalooban ko, I had to put a stop to whatever's going on between us in the meantime. Para akong mamamatay during the announcement of my engagement to Greg, when I spotted her in the crowd. Her face that night will forever be etched in my memory. She looked so lost, and confused, but what I can't stand the most was the pain in her eyes,when I finally met her gaze. I had to lookeaway quickly, kasi baka hindi ko ma-kontrol ang sarili ko. Baka takbuhin ko 'yong kinaroroonan niya at hilahin siya paalis sa lugar iyon.
