The sight of the sunlight never filled Kendall Warnell with as much relief as she did as she walked out of McGarrett High School that day. It'd felt like the school day had dragged on for an eternity before the dismissal bell rang.
School had never been an issue for her like other people her age, but ever since she transferred to McGarrett High School after Christmas break, it was torture. She missed her two best friends, Hannah and Stephanie, the teachers were complete assholes and for some reason, it felt like every one of them had it out for her, and she did not fit in at all. When she first got here, she thought this was the fresh start she needed after getting possessed by a crazy ghost, and perhaps she could fit into this new town after living her whole life in Raven City but for the past five months had been terrible.
From day one all of the teachers had been rude and unapproachable and any time she tried to talk to anyone and join a friend group but was ignored and rejected by everyone. She would try to sit with various friend groups and the few people she thought were nice and she would try to hang out with completely shut down all her attempts and it got to the point where she just stopped trying.
Tears stung her eyes as she walked home. Even though things between her, Stephanie, and Hannah had gotten weird after the ghost possessed her and she was angry at Hannah for going to Sterling Manor which caused the chain of reactions that unfolded, she missed them terribly. She realized how irrational it was to be angry at Hannah. She regretted the way she withdrew from her and for screaming at her and wished she could see her in person. Even though McGarrett was only three hours away from Raven City and seeing each other wasn't impossible, it was hard to try to make plans to see each other due to everyone's busy schedules and she missed seeing them at school every day and hanging out with them.
She missed everything about Raven City, from her school, friends, house, the familiarity. She knew that moving was a mistake and she wished she could move back.
She sighed as her house came into view. She wondered when her life would feel like her own again. She felt like her entire life was spiraling out of control and she didn't know how to stop it.
She was going to therapy for what had happened. Fortunately, it was helping. She was meeting with Dr. Young over Zoom and she was slowly starting to get over the traumatizing experience of being possessed but she still had terrible nightmares about what she saw when the ghost had taken over her body. She was worried when her parents told Dr. Young about her being possessed that the doctor wouldn't believe her but Dr. Young never questioned her or doubted her and was always understanding - but then again, she supposed that's what all therapists were like, though she was still grateful for Dr. Young.
She hesitated in front of her house. She remembered being excited to move into this house, into this town, as she thought this would be a great new start, but everything had turned to shit - complete, utter shit. She felt guilty for pushing her parents to take the transfer of their new jobs that would require them to move to McGarrett when the move was an absolute mistake.
She shook her head and opened the front door and went inside. She kept telling herself she'd feel better over time, that she had to give this place a chance, but she knew deep down Raven City was where she belonged.
She walked inside the living room and frowned when she noticed both her parents were there. Both of them should've been at work by now and they never missed work, so whatever they were home for had to be bad.
"What's going on, guys?" she asked then realized the TV was on.
She turned her attention to the screen and shock coursed through her system at what she saw.
Supernaturals/paranormals are proven real! Scientists and government officials are coming together to figure out this new and life-changing discovery!
She didn't hear the rest of what the news said. She tuned out the news anchor and knew her life would spiral even more out of control.
