Ma walked back into the living room and Kameron knew what she was going to say before the words came out of her mouth. "She's gone." She didn't sound surprised in the least and even looked amused even though this situation was far from amusing.

Sarafina nodded, as though this was expected. "She's in shock right now."

No shit, Sherlock, Kameron was tempted to say but wisely held his tongue.

Sarafina moved toward the front door. "I'm going to find her. I'll talk to her and bring her back."

"I can come with you," Kameron volunteered but Sarafina shook her head.

"No. I'd prefer it if you and your family stay here." Sarafina pulled out her phone and muttered, "Go ahead and drive over here."

Kameron ran his hand through his hair in frustration. He didn't want to sit here like a sitting duck but refused to go against Sarafina. So far, Sarafina had been kind to him and his family but knew it would be a fatal and deadly decision to go against her wishes, and as much as he wanted to look for Kendall himself, Sarafina could easily wipe the floor with him and he didn't want to have to go through that.

He heard a car pull into the driveway.

"I'll be back," she told them. "A few of my guards will come in in a second and keep you updated."

Kameron strongly suspected she had her guards there to keep an eye on him and his family and make sure they didn't try to leave.

Sarafina left and immediately two tall men wearing black business suits walked in. As intimidating as they appeared, they were friendly and engaged in conversation with Dad about his job. Kameron and his mother and sister used that as a way to talk in private. Kameron followed Ma and Kayla into the kitchen.

"Are we going to be under arrest?" Kameron whispered.

Ma shook her head. "No, but we are going to be closely monitored from now on. You're also going to sign a contract that will say you'll never do anything like this again and if you break that contract you can get arrested."

"How long will we be monitored?"

"I don't know, but probably for a long time."

Kayla sat down in one of her chairs. "I can't believe Sarafina actually came all this way."

"Me either," Kameron agreed.

"I can," said Ma. "Something like this hasn't happened in over fifty years and it can have terrible consequences. She definitely needed to come here to see this for herself."

"What will Sarafina do to her?" Kayla asked the question that had been on Kameron's mind since this whole thing happened.

"She'll take Kendall pack to her headquarters, have her closely monitored, and have someone help her learn how to use her abilities. Since she didn't start shapeshifting until much later than other shifters and she didn't grow up in our world, she won't know how to control her abilities. She more than likely thought last night was a dream. If it continues to happen, she might end up in a dangerous situation since she doesn't know what she's doing."

A thought came to mind that had Kameron wincing. "What if she refuses to go?"

Ma shook her head. "She won't have a choice. It's not up to her. She's a shapeshifter now so she has to abide by our laws, regardless of whether or not she was human for the majority of her life."

"What about her parents? What if her parents don't want her to go?"

Ma stilled for a second and looked out the kitchen window at the Warnell's house. "Honestly, they won't have a choice either."

"Even if they say no?"

"Unfortunately, yes. I'm not happy about it either and if I were in their shoes I definitely would be absolutely furious, but Sarafina's orders can override their refusal and they can get arrested for interfering in supernatural law."

"But she's not eighteen! They can't -"

"They can, and they will. I'm not happy about this either, Kameron, and I know this isn't fair on her or her parents, but this is how this will go down."

Kameron looked away. Guilt surged through him at putting Kendall in this situation. When he gave her his blood, he never thought this would happen. He thought he'd been trying to save her life, but he ended up ruining it. He should have tried to help her by stopping the bleeding or something else until the ambulance arrived. Even though circumstances like this were rare, he should've considered that this could've happened. Because of him, Kendall was now forced into a life she never asked for and would have to adapt to a new way of life, a life she would probably hate. She was going to resent him.

As if reading his mind, Ma placed a hand on his shoulder and said, "Kam, do not beat yourself up over this. You were trying to save her life and risked a lot to help her. You had no idea this could've happened. She might not adjust well to being like us but the best thing we can do is be there and support her."

He nodded though the guilt still ate at him.

Ma gave him a hug and then turned to the stove. "I'll make us some dinner. Try to relax as much as possible."

Relaxation was off the table but he nodded and sat down at the table beside Kayla.

He thought about his family's and Kendall's future and wondered if he made the right choice by giving her his blood. He also wondered about his future, and how this was going to affect him in the long run. Maybe she would've preferred to die. Maybe he officially ruined her life.
